Based on their output, which company is your favorite developer for each Nintendo system, besides Nintendo themselves? Here are my picks: (more)

Retro is kind of a beautiful mess of a black box of a company. Nintendo's take on a homegrown 'mature' Western studio started as a semi-reincarnation of Iguana Entertainment, a studio which saw some success with publisher Acclaim Entertainment on many Nintendo (and other) platforms. They had some decent games, but it's kind of a weird fit, right? So they pitched some generic-ish concepts, including that car combat game, some football sim, and the sprawling vapoRPG, Raven Blade! A bit of mismanagement, strippers and cocaine on Nintendo's dime, yada yada, and Big Daddy N had to step in for some tough love. They cleaned the place up, cancelled pretty much EVERYTHING, and repurposed one of their concepts into Metroid Prime, a project doomed for failure if there ever was one. And THEN Nintendo upended the tea table again (maybe several times) during development!.. (more)

For example, everyone used to say you could totally shoot the dog in the NES Duck Hunt. I would try it over and over! But it never worked. I just assumed I was doing something wrong... (more)

I'm almost finished watching the presentation. Most of the 'gamer' feedback has seemed negative, but I honestly think that the concept is pretty impressive. Even though I'm naturally skeptical about game streaming performance, the amount of thought that they put into the service (split-screen, state-sharing, multi-GPU support, future-proofing) is very impressive. The accessibility is unparalleled. And those streaming features are going to be pretty important to certain people. Certain... millennial people... (more)

With regards to gold coins, I've developed the habit of waiting till I have a certain amount of coins, like 500 and then buying something with that. Right now, I'm aiming for 1,000 coins. Once I get that, I'll buy something that's $10 or get a $10 discount one something more expensive. I'm going to make an exception this month, however. Since, it's my birthday month, Nintendo sent me a 30% voucher I can use on a couple of games, I'm eyeing Metroid Samus Returns and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga. But then, there's an offer where if I use up 90 gold coins, I can get a 30% discount on Metroid Samus Returns. So, I'm going to wait till next Thursday to see if by any chance either of these games goes on sale for 30%. It has already happened once before with Samus Returns but I was not wise enough to jump on the offer. So, in the off chance that happens, I'll nab both games for 30% and keep the 90 coins. If not, I'll spend the 90 coins and get $13 off... (more)

This is a rather straight-forward and obvious question for all the eager Octopath Traveler gamers out there. Who did you ultimately decide on, and why? Did you want to focus on the brains or brawn? Did you want a certain region to start at? Did you pick at random? Let us know! Bonus points if you can tell us who you plan to go meet up with next. From my understanding, half of these folks can be in your party at any given time so it pays to make new friends! What's your strategy? Share, rejoice, and game on!.. (more)
