Ah hmm.. I'll have to remember that. I just got to Bloodpool Act 2 and died at the boss. Mostly I've just been beating bosses by being very cautious. Maybe if I level up more I can be a bit more aggressive. Right now I've fallen into "Super Nintendo" mode where I just find out how the pattern of a boss can really be exploited, haha. I've tended to find a safe spot on the map, jump every now and then, and chip away at bosses.
If you (ab)use the trick I just gave you, careful: it will make the bosses a cakewalk, which might not be much fun. You can just stand there and slash away without caring about your health.
@Guillaume That's an interesting strategy. I might try that one day. Not on this playthrough, though. Has anybody who finished this game tried the Professional Mode? What's your take on it?
@Mr_Mustache I probably will. I own the cartridge, but haven't beat the game since it erased my last save file. I'll probably emulate it instead, since it's not something I can beat in a day like Actraiser.
@PogueSquadron Actraiser bosses are very pattern-y. Most of the time you can figure out the pattern and take no damage. Some bosses, like the minotaur and ice wyvern, are harder to avoid and easier to kill by spamming the sword.
I finished all the way up to Marahna and every town is maxed out. I'm on my way to Aitos and Northwall after that. I should finish the game by tonight and then I'll tackle Professional Mode in the next few days.
Damn, the typos in this game are embarrassing. The ending is full of them.
I didn't know about the Professional mode. I just tried it, and I don't find it very fun. The enemies that used to be killed in one hit now take two, and they're way more annoying because of it. Also, I miss the Sim sections.
I can't get Northwall to grow to Max, for some reason. I don't know what I missed.
That whole ending sequence of the game was pretty tough for me. But the spell that makes it rain fire was a lifesaver for much of the second half of the game. Very cool last boss.
Yeah, that's done. I got a compass for it, that I gave to Marahna, which was already maxed. It only gave me a scroll. And it didn't get anything going in Northwall.
Check the status of your cities in the menu. If it says MAX, well, you can figure that out. If it says "SLOW", then there's something to be done, but perhaps not immediately. Sometimes your villagers will ask for something specific, so you can give it to them once you get it. Sometimes the city won't grow more until you beat Act 2 of that stage. Sometimes you can also destroy the straw huts so they'll build better buildings.
@Mr_Mustache There's an ultimate cap on your population based on things like score in the action sections, map size, and odd things like the number of bridges you've built (hint: build fewer). If your stats say "max," then that's it. But if it says "slow," then it's time to whip out the natural disasters to get them to build better houses.
