@Zero At that part of the game, I gave up on the side quests and just finished the thing. I didn't even complete Colony 6. Figured I'd get back to it in a new game plus.

So, did anyone else run into an issue around level 70 or so where suddenly the only sidequests you can find require you to be a good 10-15 levels higher than you are?!

Yes! I had to grind.

@Secret_Tunnel

That's where I'm at, and also probably why I've been on hold with it. I'll kick back into it soon.

I just beat the game. I did all but 5 sidequests (ones that I missed from various points), I finished Colony 6, saw all the heart to hearts and finished the collectopedia. I also killed one of the 100+ monsters (Final Marcus). And honestly, after about 140 hours of playing I still feel like I could have kept playing. What a great game. Can't wait for the sequel.

@Jargon

What levels were you at in the end?
03/05/13, 14:00
I never really hit a level wall like that. It was more the opposite for me, I found that I tended to be overleveled for most things. But that just has to do with how slow I play and how I check everything out. The only bosses I had trouble with were Disciple Lorithia and Xord. The former I could have edged out as I were if my AI partners weren't such morons, and the latter was just a matter of getting better equips since I kind of ignored equipment up to that point.

@Mop it up I'm talking about the sidequests though! I can't imagine how I could have been at a much higher level at the point I am at unless I had went around specifically leveling up, but I still ended up a good 10-15 levels too low to do some of these sidequests.

Oh my god, the Lorithia fight was annoying as heck. Surrounded by poison and my AI partners just stand right in the freaking middle of it and keep getting themselves killed off. Furthermore, even if you have enough in your meter for your partners to revive you, they can't if you die in the poison, for some reason. Which of course kept happening to me because there was such little room to move and the boss uses topple and confuse and a bunch of other things that sit me right smack in the poison and don't let me move.

But I'm past it now. And hey, it was nice to have a tough boss fight for the first time in awhile.

@Zero

Yeah, that boss fight gave me a lot of trouble too. I think I resorted to having my partners 'follow me,' which meant they were close to me at all times, but didn't really attack or have free will. But they always remained alive, and occassionally I would 'free' them and let them attack. Once they strayed into the poison though, I had to call them back. It made the fight longer than it should've been, but I survived once I got that strategy down.

I'm near the end of the game and I still have no idea how to issue commands to my partners, heh.
03/06/13, 13:34
damn... I'm like.... 94hrs in the game but only on level 65.. I've spent the last few hours building up you know where and doing other sidequests.. I think I am ready to get back to the main story again... I still have sidequests to complete but at least the timed quests are all done..

It's the never ending game!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHH WOOO HEE HEHEE JLALA; HAHHHAHAHA .

@Zero I can't even begin to imagine surviving that fight without giving commands. I breezed through the bulk of the game, but that boss and the final boss both beat me multiple times.

My sister found a used copy of this game (for $60...ouch) so I may get my copy back! I hope to be playing a new game plus while everyone else is playing Wind Waker HD.

@Zero

During battle, hold right trigger and use the DPad. Up is focus target, down is follow me (where they just come to you and don't attack or anything) I think. There's another one I believe but I never used it.

@Zero I was talking about everything, not just the story path. Though I also came across some Exp Up gems so I leveled up fast, and reached lvl 99 pretty quickly.

Do you recall your strategy for this guy? Last time I was playing I was trying to figure out how to beat these guys, but I never discovered the proper setup.

@Mop it up

Basically in any big fights I always played as Shulk with Reyn and Sharla. Put an aggro up gem on Reyn so that he has the monster's attention 90% of the time. Then I do Shulks side and back attacks to fill up the party gauge. Once it's full, I use a Break, Topple, Daze combo and get as many hits as I can in while starting to fill the party gauge again.

I find this strategy to be pretty fool proof except in instances where the enemy either causes you a lot of damage every time you hit them or inflicts Topple or Daze or something like that when you hit them. But even in those cases, if Sharla is on the ball (sometimes she just doesn't want to heal for some reason) then I can usually get through it.
03/07/13, 00:21
Yeah I guess I could have used level-up gems but I often felt over-leveled so I didn't want to make that worse. But it felt like no matter where I was, I had sidequests to do, but now there is just a gap. Still, I'm closing the gap so I can get back into the sidequests soon.

@Jargon Isn't it kind of overly risky to do chain attacks though? You use up your gauge and then can't revive if you need to. Just seems way too risky.

@Zero

I did it all the time. With Shulk, it was so easy to build it up quickly if you needed it. And if the health situation wasn't looking great, I could use Sharla to group heal instead of inflicting Daze and then just use Shulk to do it if I get another chain chance or right after.

How? I honestly never quite understood what makes it happen.

Furthermore according to my brother getting your characters into that mode where they are all flamey and going nuts and stuff is super important in some of the last boss battles, but I have no idea how to make that happen either. I don't even remember what it is called!
03/07/13, 01:29
@Zero

If you attack on the side the two side attacks or the back with the back attack it fills up the party gauge. Or other context sensitive things like using two moves that go together (like Gale Slash and Electric Buster with Dunban). Or if a move does extra damage to someone who's toppled or something like that. The other way it goes up is the QTE like things, but I never understood what made that pop up.

The flamey thing you're talking about is Aura I think, which I never really understood or used. Maybe it would have been important if I wasn't level 98, but it wasn't important for beating the high level unique monsters.
