Can't wait to see how high margins get when they're selling pieces of cardboard for $80 a pop.

Really impressive numbers. I originally scoffed at the idea of Switch doing Wii numbers, but maybe it's going to happen? Then you've got all the other areas they are expanding into like movies and toys, and I think they are trying to take over the world.

Nintendo should take over the world, as long as they don't lose the plot.

The next cold war: Nintendo vs Disney.

Disney is almost definitely going to try to buy Nintendo and also everyone else eventually, and they won't find it as "easy" as buying Pixar and Marvel and Star Wars, so... that should be interesting.

Good on them, it is deserved! Next stop: Outselling the GameCube. Maybe by the end of 2018??

@J.K. RikiIf this keeps up, no doubt! Maybe even +8 million units? I'm really curious to see their release plans for the second half of the year. Super Mario Maker 2? Super Smash Bros for Switch? Considering how much content they used to add to SMM between the development builds over a few months, I think a 2018 release for a killer sequel is totally doable if it has been under development. Smash is likely going to recycle and build on assets from the previous game, because there is just no point in building a new one from the ground up at this moment, so that's possible as well.

@HinphI expect a Smash Brothers Remaster ala Mario Kart myself. Would prefer not that, but I expect it. As you said, why build a new one? At this point, little reason unless they're going to go crazy and try something new (which I wouldn't be against, but would be sales-foolishness probably).

@J.K. RikiA new direction could always be interesting. Sakurai probably doesn't want to make these things forever, so maybe bring in somebody new and encourage them to reimagine it? For the sake of getting Switch another high performing momentum sustaining title for its second holiday, I think they should just go with the Deluxe model for this generation... port it, enhance it, tweak some things, add some new fighters and other content, and sit back as it sells millions.

Maybe I'm weird but to me all the new stages and new characters and new items and such are enough to justify new games in a series like Smash. I mean yeah I'd like to see more new stuff that I couldn't even imagine too, but I think there is a middle ground between port and complete re-imagining.

@HinphIt would be scary to trust someone new with a system-selling game like that, but yes, that might be an interesting idea! @ZeroThat's fair, yeah. I guess for me all the Smash Brothers games have been what you're describing, and I'm ready for either a real leap or just to stick with what is already there and use their dev power/time on something else. (For me, Melee was the high point gameplay wise, so I've seen all the others as hugely-content-rich-amazingness but also a step backwards...)

@J.K. RikiWhile Melee is great gameplay-wise, I think if they made more great stages without annoying and difficult-to-look-at distractions and gimmicks, it would go a long way to feeling more like Melee did. Why are there so many stages that fly around through the background and change the layout? Who thinks those are better than a well-thought-out stationary arena? And I don't mean just Battlefield or Final Destination. Some real stages! I think that alone would drastically improve the feel of the game even if they stayed close to Smash 4.

@Cubed777Good point. Of course, brilliant stationary levels are a thousand times harder to pull off than ones that distract you, ha ha!

@Zero@J.K. RikiYeah, a total reimagining could be going too far. Keeping the same general mechanics so that it remains Smash will always be important, similar to how the new Street Fighter games still feel like Street Fighter but stack new mechanics on top perhaps? I wouldn't envy anybody who has to follow Sakurai and attempt any of this! Hah. I think we're actually on the same page for what we think should be done on the Switch game, Zero . Whereas every previous Smash has been built from the ground up for its respective new console, I'm not sure the difference in power between Wii U and Switch justifies that, so I think it'd be smarter to use Smash for Wii as a foundation to build on... not a straight port, as it can be tweaked and have lots of fresh content as well. It's be different enough while also speeding up development time substantially. @Cubed777Yeah, some of the gimmicks make the newer stages kind of unappealing, especially after repeated play. Something stage options could fix?
