So there's lots of Xenoblade threads running around. Time for an official thread for impressions game discussion etc.
Whether you're a lucky resident of Europe or Australia, a North American who's decided to flip the bird to Nintendo and import, or even someone who simply wants to live vicariously through the experiences of others, this is the place you want to be!
Just reached what I assume is the boss before the final FINAL boss. I'm only level 69. The final final final boss is Level 85 then? What are some cool sidequests I can do to level up? I don't want to just grind and do boring collect-a-thon stuff, I want to see some secrets!
I just had a weird glitch? where I successfully ran away from a battle, but instead of coming back to life, one of my characters stayed dead. Body disappeared too. I was worried like oh crap, what if she is gone forever now? but switching her out of the party and then back in fixed it.
@Secret_Tunnel Hmm, apparently my brother beat it around level 77, so I don't think you have to be up at 85.
A ton of areas have quests that lead to a secret area / boss fight! I forget exactly which quests lead to those, but generally if you do a quest and then get another one right away, that's a good sign. It's usually a chain of stuff before you get to the secret area.
At level 69 you can probably go back and kill some of those tough dudes that were walking around most areas too. Maybe.
@Zero A. I'm not really sure...but you're certainly getting closer. Maybe 80% done? B. When you finish Mechonis Core a lot of places get blocked off or changed. But Dunban will state very clearly when you get to the absolute point of no return at Prison Island (revisited).
Since I'd wait to do sidequests until later when I was overpowered, I was pretty efficient. I'm at lvl 99, completed a lot of sidequests, and finished the game in just over 100 hours. I don't really feel like I rushed through the game though, so I wonder what some of you have been doing...
@Mop it up Doing the sidequests while we're underpowered, lol. Well, not underpowered per se, but I've definitely ran up against some sidequests that took a lot of time / work on my side to get past whereas I know that if I just left them and came back later I could breeze through them. I like the challenge though.
I feel like there's nothing for me to do to level up other than grind. All of the cool current sidequests I want to do have me fighting level 80s and 90s. All of the other ones are old ones that I should have done in my 30s. There's nothing for a level 70 to do!
I hope that X gives the sidequest system some serious revisions. Zero's top ten is spot-on.
EDIT: Finally beat the boss I was stuck on. Had to bring Riki in for his Ether abilities. Will finish the game tomorrow.
Oh man, at 94 hours now. For some god-forsaken reason I decided to go back and finish all of the sidequests that I've started. Which is about 50 of them. And even that wouldn't be too bad, except that I keep finding new ones too.
Looks like I have a ways to go.. I was actually doing some sidequests last night as well - I'm trying to raise Colony 6's affinity/rebuild so I had the Wiki right beside me to find the items. It does bother me a bit that it would take another lifetime to find some of these without Wiki's help. I found 3 secret areas last night though in doing some of these sidequests - the views are truly amazing.
Thought I was gonna beat the game last night, but I got stuck on another boss. THINK this is finally the second-to-last one. I'm level 76... think I'll be able to beat it tonight. Or maybe I won't have time. Tomorrow.
Just beat the game at level 80. The pre-final boss bosses were cake, but I'm glad I was 80 for the final boss.
The endgame environment was absolutely beautiful. One of the most awe-inspiring things I've seen in a game. Cannot wait to see what X looks like.
I liked the ending too. Who saw the big sci-fi twist coming!? I thought it was great. So it looks like Shulk's wish created a new continent where the people's of Bionis and Mechonis can live together in peace. And apparently it also re-created the rest of the universe as well. I guess that means that Xenoblade Planet is now floating through the real-world universe in place of Earth. Unless Alvis created a new and different universe. Maybe we'll get to go to space in X? Maybe there will be aliens!?
I got back to the game yesterday, I've only been playing it since I had the Wii U and I'd taken a break to play more U software first. Amazing how it sucks you in. The world design and art direction make it feel like it has better visuals than any of the HD stuff I've played recently.
And at just 16 hours in, looking at this page alone, I am barely scratching the surface. Awesome.
Well I'm finally all caught up on every sidequest that I had unlocked, and ran around a bunch of areas to make sure I cleared out most of everything. I'm sure I missed some somewhere, especially since I can recall offhand two locked areas that I never figured out how to unlock. Maybe I'll check a FAQ for how to unlock them, although if I do that I may end up trying to use a FAQ to find every hidden area in the game, and I'm trying to not be an insane completionist here.
After getting caught up, I started moving forward again. A bunch of stuff just went down. I must be pretty close to the end at this point. Right? I just finished the part where you find out that Shulk has been dead all of this time and some other guy was using his body?!!?!
I'm at around 105 hours into the game, and I know this is totally normal for a lot of people and a lot of games, but for me it is pretty insane. I've certainly never played a single player "campaign" in a game for this long before. I'm not sure if I have played any game this long, really... though I can think of a few that are maybes.
So, did anyone else run into an issue around level 70 or so where suddenly the only sidequests you can find require you to be a good 10-15 levels higher than you are?! I just finished the part where the High Entia get turned into Telethia and I have found a bunch of sidequests since then but most of them are just plain impossible at the level I am at. I've done the few that I could but I'm still only at level 74 and have a good 10 or 15 sidequests opened but I can't really progress any further in them where I am at.
I guess I'll just keep pushing forward in the main game, but I think that I'm getting near the end, so there may not be too much more that I can do there? Then again I probably only need to get up another 5-7 levels or so before I can take on some of these sidequests...
I wanted to respond because I don't want you to end up talking to yourself with another post in a row on this great thread
I'm not there yet..I've spent the last 8 hours on sidequests and I'm on level 65-66 I think.. I was completing Colony 6 sidequest (upgrading everything to level 2/3) and I received an EXP III crystal. I just aquired it so I'm wondering if you have put that into one of your characters - maybe you will be able to level up faster?
I've been spending a lot of time on that because I wanted to get my affinity up so I can trade stuff to get some Ether Roses for a sidequest - trying to find them in Satori Marsh is ludicrous... arg. (I think you have to trade them with Colony 6 resident
I've been using the Xenoblade Wiki extensibly to find characters/items more quickly - the game is so huge, and it's not like I've been playing it daily for a year, I had a big break in between so remembering where characters are is next to impossible - even with the affinity page.
I'm becoming a completionist... Damn. I at least want to complete Colony 6 though... I think once that is done, I'll be satisfied...maybe..
