@Fabz

I figured, and knew so. Its a shame you weren't there the following night, sober.
Emeris came over and helped myself and Chack to complete Anand's.

It was just Chack/Anand/myself for my Urgent. 45 minutes.

@Tranquilo

I dunno.. I don't want to watch that, and I don't think you guys should either, really. Doesn't that ruin the game for you? I never want to see anything until I do with my own eyes, especially here. I know you found that AFTER you saw him for the first time, but some other people aren't close to where you at all. I don't know, brother. Just keep pluggin' away. Chack was only HR60 (with Anand and I at HR50 each), so you don't need hugely overpowered guys, or even 4. We fought him straight up, no sleepbombing.

We didn't think to bring Farcasters the first time we fought him, but Thursdays run not only did we bring one, but we had materials to do so. Using one gets you back to camp immediately, good for a quick nap! (full health) Pretty awesome, especially if you're in the middle of an S-storm.
12/19/10, 02:50
Yeah, it felt a little cheap to sleepbomb him.

It's a smart tactic, but the fun of the game for me comes from making my own strategies when it comes to weapons or monsters.

Or even sharing with friends. Somehow, the internet makes that less pure. That's probably just irrational, but I miss the days of, like, sharing Zelda and Mario tips on the playground.
12/19/10, 04:21
well, i guess i am glad i introduced you to my boy Emeris. he is the nicest and we always play together
12/19/10, 06:15
@Mr_Mustache

You're right. I'm also not too fond of sleep bombing because I perceive it as a little cheap like anand said. But hey, it's a valid hunting strategy, right? Nevertheless, If I can have a little bit of both I will. That is to say, being practical and having fun at the same time. I don't want to needlessly complicate myself but at the same time I don't want to compromise fun by doing something I don't really find joy in just to get ahead. I ended up doing that on a couple of occasions and that ended up killing games for me.

On a side note, I had my first major altercation with somebody on Monster Hunter. So I was getting ready to do the "hot deal" event quest right, and this guy was playing around and I ask him if he wants to come and doesn't answer. At this point the other two guys and I have the quest selected and everything and the other dude is just sitting there. I wait a while and a few mins later I ask him again and still doesn't answer. I know he was there all this time because he had been writing little messages. Then I said "you have ten seconds" and after those ten seconds I left because the other two were ready and I didn't know if he would come or not. After that, the guy started calling me names saying that he had to eat. I don't know if he meant in real life or in-game.

I tried to explain to him that it's common courtesy to let someone know if you're going to be away for a while so we don't wait around for him. Instead of trying to have a conversation he kept calling me names and then left after I asked the two other guys to quit so we can go back to the city. We we got back, dude left. Furthermore, there was another guy who started insulting me for no good reason. The problem wasn't even with him. At least one guy saw where I was coming from, but when I was trying to explain the guy who was insulting me for no good reason wouldn't even listen, and then left.

What confounds me the most is that after he had rendezvoused with the first guy who left (probably since he was still in game, I know because I had him on my friends list) he took the time to write me a message insulting me. I replied with a sarcastic "OMG I'm going to commit suicide! Child please", and in my mind I said to myself "the fact that you took the time to write this obscene message after you left says more about yourself as a person that it does about me" which is retrospect is what I probably should have replied. These internet thugs are hilarious, actually, let me rephrase that, they're pathetic.

Sorry to bring up those tutorials everone. I beat the game only knowing how to use a hammer. When I was trying to figure out how to use the other weapons I found his youtube page and it helped. I fully agree with you all about actually fighting him, for my urgent I did, but it takes forever to kill him and it's nearly impossible to break his horns. I sleep bomb to speed the process and get skypiercers easily. It helps to break up sleep bombing runs with actual ones to break up the monotomy.
12/19/10, 19:59
No need to apologize at all. I have no problem with people using those tactics (and it sure made for a smooth Urgent). Everyone can decide what to do for themselves. I just personally don't find those kinds of methods as satisfying.
12/20/10, 04:54
@anandxxx

I agree 100%. Theres something different about getting it via PM/mouth instead of an internet walkthrough site, or something. Talking to your buddies about the SAME EXACT STUFF seems so much cleaner than going to a Wiki page for something.

@Fabz

Yeah, he's a nice guy. A little too..I dunno, "knowledgable" for my tastes. He reminds me of guys who play D&D nonstop, and it comes off kind of snobbish. I know he doesn't do it on purpose, but semi-talking down to me because of my armor set, and then being surprised when I didn't faint on our Red Hot Party mission is a little.. --I don't know. He certainly does love Sleep Bombing though, haha.

@Tranquilo

I much prefer juggling a monster. The 'ol Pitfall / Flash Bomb deal is a pretty good combo.

--This is the reason I play with NOBODY that I don't know. Fabz LOVES to do it, I am the TOTAL opposite. In fact, when I go to play, I AVOID the huge servers because I don't want any jerks crashing my party. I'd rather play with just Anand, than Anand and some turd I don't know who is going to be a jerk. More often than not when I log on, I hit up Minegarde, and theres about 17 people on there. Its awesome. I get my own Gate, and my own City. Rock it.

@Wilie345

What Anand said. And I don't like them pushed upon me.
12/21/10, 00:35
@Tranquilo I haven't played for awhile, but I remember the first(and only) time I met someone like that on the game. It was in a quest with the Rathalos and our party had just cut off the tail. I tried to carve it,but the Rathalos came charging at me. We already had two people faint, so this could have cost us the game. I got hit and survived but another one my teammates tried to save me and ended up fainting. He left the room angry and calling me a noob because I tried to carve the Rathalos' tail while it was still there. This minor conflict doesn't sound as bad as yours through.

remember that I obtained almosteverything in the game. i'm hr 131 and i literally just play for the kicks. yesterday i realized that to get monster broth all i had to do is use the weakest poison weapon i got and poison the stupid bugs instead of killing them... and i feel sad for those who grind giggi+ for that stupid item. all is left is 3 dragonbone relics (easy), i1 amber tusk+ (it'll take an hour), i jhen moran scale+ (gotta wait for event) and 1 uragaan coin and two diablos coins. i will then have everything in the game (my terms = all armors and all hammers). if i go nuts i'll go ahead and get everything else but i'm not sure if I feel like doing it. besides the lance i don't care for the other weapons and for some reason gunning doesn't feel right... or perhaps i don't understand it yet.... might have one of my boys to teach me

emeris is not arrogant whatsoever. he's so fun and silly we are always goofing off and chatting instead of playing.

also, as far as strangers, i have no problems with it at all because, as i said, since i got all the gear i need i don't care if we win, fail, are overpowered or play with no armor for the kicks/ it was a different story when we played your 5star urgent cause i felt really obligated and that's why i got my friends to join
12/21/10, 01:36
I like to play for fun as well, but just like when we are practicing on a team sport, there are certain ways to do things. Besides, it's like I told them, I came here to hunt, and and a simple "brb" would have let me know you were coming eventually. Besides, we could have just gone back, I could have really done without the name calling. I erased that person from my list, he's clearly not worth the effort.

This is not going to cause me to stop playing with strangers however. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have met people like Mark or Immortal (my clan commander) pretty cool dude. Oh, and I have almost completed my uragaan armor set. I only have to forge the vest and helm to complete it. I need 10 carapaces and 5 scales+. I also obtained a great new toy (Great Sword) which has a dragon element. That's all I'm going to preview, you'll have to play to find out what it is.

I'm generally understanding when it comes To people missing in action. You never know what's going on, for example, a few weeks ago this kid HAD to go to dinner and itwe can't forget some players are as young as 10years old... What's important us that if they do have to go during a quest they forecast to base.

It happened to me once way back. I had to run while we were fighting jho and in the forest and I went to area 2 from 4 and the fucker followed me...

It also happened recently that while in the city my puppy peed on the couch and I had to literally run her out to the backyard...

Shit happens... That's all I'm saying. It's just a game. And that's what I mention when I said I don't care if someone faints, If we fail a quest and so on.

As a matter of fact, everytime someone faints and says "sorry" I reply "why?" and they say "cause I fainted" to which I reply "dude it's just a game. Say "ooops" lol instead of sorry and then everyone is happy and we gave a blast cause we play to have fun, not in a robotic way and just to get stuff
12/21/10, 07:04
@Fabz

You have a point, shit happens, and I understand that, but that wasn't what happened in my case. I already explained that so I don't have anything else to say about the matter.

And I was thinking about that yesterday. I was hunting with another person (Agnaktor) and I fainted first and didn't say "sorry". After that he fainted and did. Then, when the clock was counting down for the final five mins of gameplay, the guy was defeated again. I guess he was kind of embarrassed I guess. I replied, "I still had fun, don't sweat it!" and I really did. Still, sometimes I do play half-heartedly and those time I do tend to apologize if I'm doing it haphazardly.

Since I've finished DKC Returns... I might as well continue with playing Monster Hunter Tri.

Anyone want to help me do some quests tonight? I'm stuck on the capturing Lagiacrus quest on the single player game, and I think it'd be better if I try to complete more multiplayer quests so I can get some better armor at least.
12/22/10, 01:21
I'm logging onto Monster Hunter at 7pm EST.. *gasp* Don't know how long I'll be online but I'd love to do a quest or 2. Look me up..

@Smerd

Alright! I'll be on in a few minutes.

@Smerd
@Paleo_Orca

Stories of success, gents?
12/22/10, 02:27
Aren't the servers screwy on Tuesdays?
12/22/10, 04:32
no/ on thursday but it's not been as bad.

it's 3am and i might be on in a few (20 min or so)
12/22/10, 10:59
@Mr. Mustache

One mission was a success... (Great Baggie was it?...Jaggie but in the snow) but Our mission for the Rathian was not. We were close though. Next time. We got his tail and Orca ran out of paintballs so our mission time was running low as well when we finally kicked the bucket. I didn't know Rathian was a stupid bird lizard or I would have brought paintballs as well to help out.

I felt a bit useless with the hammer.. It is a slow weapon but I don't seem to comfortable with the other ones I've tried.

@anandxxx

I thought it was Tuesday, too. Wasn't that the day/night you vowed never to play again? Yikes!

@Smerd

Yeah, Rathian is tough stuff (doesn't really get "easier" either..). Pretty scary. She was the cause of my first faint 50 hours in. Stupid Qurupeco called it, I pooped my pants, and got charged. I was frozen in fear..

Once you get the hang of that hammer, you'll be one of the most devastating guys out there.

@Simbabbad

For what its worth, I think I have 100% of my games holding a certain distinction, whether it be playing, gave up, finished, etc. I like the feature, good stuff.

EDIT- Oh, and I finally rated it a 9.6 last night, putting it right in line with Ocarina of Time stuff, and just behind Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger. Well done, Monster Hunter Tri!

Another EDIT- And Smerdo, I'm now HR51, as is Anand.
