Welcome to the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate thread! This will be our headquarters for coordinating our Hunts, sharing stories of war, and helpful hints for our brothers-in-arms, compatriots, friends, and neighbors. Please be mindful of folks' different definitions of "spoilers," and remember that not EVERYBODY played Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, though everybody totally should've.


The "burden" of running this thread has been placed upon me but...I can't do it alone. I will lean on Maxi and others to help with the heavy lifting occasionally, both in planning things and also in feeding this thread. Please keep it bumped (once we get going). If you could, let us know if you're getting this game, WHEN you're getting this game, and what your aspirations are so we can get us situated in groups with likeminded people. Do you want to barely play this game? Is this going to be your new #1? The most fun with this game is had when you get to go out with a group of guys week in week out, so if we can find someone with a schedule similar to yours, you'll have the most fun with it.

We're in essentially the same boat as you guys, it just isn't..good stuff. "Oh well." Our Big Platinum Prize last year was Playing Cards or Posters. Man. Buttons were recent (or was that last year? I bought some from Japan..) and you can't really get those anywhere, and I did miss out on the cool Statue thing, but Club Nintendo is generally lacking in all areas. Again, "oh well."

But you know what else is lacking? Australian Monster Hunter contingent on NW. Good thing you're all boycotting..

Basically on its own without a Wii U nearby it can't have any multiplayer. You can transfer between the Wii U and 3DS games the data for easy travel. If you have two-four 3DS nearby then you can have local play.

thanks. this video sort of clarified it up a bit. Man I wish we could play on Wii U/3DS couch co-op with others.

Ah, thanks. Wouldn't the Wii version have had higher poly models than the 3DS one though? Doesn't that mean the Wii U version will be higher resolution than Tri on the Wii, but less refined?

...maybe it's possible the 3DS is using the Wii models. In that case it's all good.

Yeah, Monster Hunter doesn't demo well if you haven't played a game in the series before. The learning curve is kind of steep, so getting tossed into a fight is kind of disorienting when you have no idea how things work, and it might just prove to be a frustrating experience. Though maybe this time they've put together a better demo than the one for the Wii version.
