Welcome to the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate thread! This will be our headquarters for coordinating our Hunts, sharing stories of war, and helpful hints for our brothers-in-arms, compatriots, friends, and neighbors. Please be mindful of folks' different definitions of "spoilers," and remember that not EVERYBODY played Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, though everybody totally should've.


The "burden" of running this thread has been placed upon me but...I can't do it alone. I will lean on Maxi and others to help with the heavy lifting occasionally, both in planning things and also in feeding this thread. Please keep it bumped (once we get going). If you could, let us know if you're getting this game, WHEN you're getting this game, and what your aspirations are so we can get us situated in groups with likeminded people. Do you want to barely play this game? Is this going to be your new #1? The most fun with this game is had when you get to go out with a group of guys week in week out, so if we can find someone with a schedule similar to yours, you'll have the most fun with it.

Pretty accurate, yeah. Not sure how to EXCHANGE cards yet. They're in lieu of Friend Codes, too? I haven't seen a code for me at all yet. And I'm already HR1 because I went online. WOWSERS.

I believe that you use your Wii U Nintendo ID for the game. That is from my understanding how the Wii U online works you just have to exchange that name with each other once so maybe you can put whoever is planning on getting the game from the first page and if they have added their Name in their profile you can add that in the OP by their name. As for the guild card it isn't in place of the online system from my understanding it is just a bonus in the game. I am guessing that you can exchange guild cards with people you have exchanged your Wii U Nintendo ID with.

Okay I have been watching a stream and I just learned that the person you want to exchange guild cards with you need to exchange Nintendo Wii U ID names with and you can do this in game and you once you have people in the same city that you want to exchange guild cards with by choosing the guild card option and then selecting Send and you can send it to everyone in the city. You can accept the card by pressing A and that will work. The guild cards update when you play with that person online for each other.

So...not in the eShop yet. No Miiverse community either.

I'll check when I'm home for lunch. It'll probably be up by then I'm guessing.

It snowed like crazy overnight, slept through two alarms... so I'm taking a "snow day"! I'll be working on the thesis from home. I'll also be giving Monster Hunter a download when it's up on the eShop at noon

It should be up on the eshop now and on the Wii U as well digitally now.

I am at work so I had my little brother download the game for me on Wii u. It apparently only took an hour to download and it is now waiting for me to get home and play it in two and a half hours! Wooooo!

Well the Miiverse MHTU is buzzing like mad - it's good that people are excited.

How many people are downloading this instead of getting the retail copy?? I'm figuring it's cheaper in the long run (for the time being) for the download because you get some money back with the deluxe Wii U deal..

I'm not lined up to get it just yet..although I have played the demo a few times. (Dual Blades ROCK!) I'm happy that the update will provide Off Screen (TV) play. I heard there is also no sidequests now... that is, your quest is to kill/trap monster and that's it - If you don't, you fail.

What do you hunters think of that??

No side quests?!? Or are they just all out of side quests?

I hadn't heard that, and if true I think that sucks. I liked that you could still get some rewards by completing a side quest, even if you couldn't defeat or trap a monster. I did that the first couple times I tried to kill a barioth (I was running out of time and/or life and wanted to at least get some rewards).

Smerd that doesn't bother me much. While it does make doing things like tail and or horn runs not as quick for monsters by the look of things in the stream I am watching the early game is easier then in Tri was and I am guessing that has to do with the 3rd Rank above High Rank in Tri and also the number of quests there are in the game. Heard there was 200 plus.

I plan on getting a Retail copy when I get the game.

yeah.......will those 200 + quests I heard about be just the side quests from the previous game? (Plus some new ones I imagine) I too liked the fact that if I knew I was running out of time to get the monster, I could still walk out with some success.... I'm not sure about the no sidequests in the main quest deal...

No idea, sorry. I never played the "out of the box" version. I'm on 1.01 now, I think.

I noticed there weren't any Side Quests on the first mission.. Are we certain there are ZERO?

I think I read 1.01 adds voice chat via the Wii U Gamepad (or something along those lines). Not sure what else it does.

I'll be playing sporadically until the Off-TV update in April. Then this will become a major time-suck.

Some of the low rank online quests will be similar to quests from Tri quests but there isn't any quests I saw when checking the wikia that were similar to the side quests like pitfall Barioth or cut off Rathloths tail that were actual quests in Ultimate. I also was checking the quests and the offline portion of the quests and unlike in Tri where you had to go online for some monsters you can play offline the entire game and get the entire experence. The same is true with online of course.

Oh! I forgot to mention with the "checking everything out" and doing my first Quest and extended Woods stuff, I've logged 3:00. This is probably a good median for you to plan on before you head online.

It should be noted that you come fully equipped with a Leather Set, and one of EVERY weapon. Nice!

@Mr_Mustache Good to hear!! Really glad we get one of each weapon to start off with this time, one of my only complaints about Tri was that they limited you pretty hardcore at the start. I wanted my long sword from day one dammit. >.<

Yeah, they made a lot of things easier from what I could tell. For starters:

-The weapon selection, as I said
-A complete set of armor to start (Leather comes with Spirit's Whim, too, so your Axes/Nets don't break easily!)
-You are already given some Combos off the bat (Potions, etc.), but there is still some Trial involved
-Your box in your place is already 6 pages deep; no expansion required, right?
-You don't scan Monsters anymore, but rather buy books on them for 100 or 200 (ie: Leviathans Vol.1)
-Fully customizable interface for your GamePad to suit YOUR needs
