Alrighty everyone, the game is finally out in all primary regions.... IDreamofHime was the first to receive their copy here on the boards. This is the place to discuss it!!!

Welcome to the thread on Negative World where all wondrous Zelda talk can occur. I would recommend that if you wanna talk about deeper-game stuff as we get going, perhaps spoiler-tag it and then describe outside of spoilers where in the game it is. The recent Super Mario 3D Land Discussion Thread is a good example. That'll allow people who aren't too far to read the thread without actually spoiling stuff for them. Just try to be courteous but definitely have fun with the game and discussions!!

Have ye what it takes?

Be sure to hit up the Skyward Sword Game Page and add the game to your collection once you've received yours. Be sure to mark it as "Playing" while you work on it and after you're played it sufficiently, give it a score you deem fitting!

If you've beaten the game, click on over to roykoopa64's Skyward Sword story/ ending discussion (SPOILERS), and general thoughts thread! It's like this thread part deux!!

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

@Zero

Nope. You would still be playing the game wrong however.

Guillaume and Renjaku (and DrFinkelstein apparently) might hate me for this.

For those of you past the 3rd dungeon: The Silent Realm is scary D: it really frightens me when those guardians wake up.

@anon_mastermind
Agreed.

Yeah the general store owner (happy mask shop guy? Looks super similar) is one of my fav NPCs in all of Zelda. Awesome animations, expressions, character, and personality. He's awesome all around.

Skyloft is indeed pretty impressive, though I find a bit of the layout hard to remember/confusing.

There are no really big chunks of land in the sky though right? Gotta say that disappointing. Even Wind Waker had places that were of a decent size. So far I've seen nothing but the tiniest things in SS.

@Paleo_Orca
Actually, I was disappointed by that aspect of it. It was intimidating, but not creepy/scary as some have said. I was like oh shit when I accidentally ran into a spotlight after I had collected the tears cuz I was scared to die in 1 hit and lose my progress, but otherwise I thought the scare factor was underwhelming. I'd have liked something much creepier.

I apparently suck at every mini game in this damn game ;p

Just finished the 6th dungeon, and I'm missing 7 heart pieces. One of which is from this pumpkin shooting mini game that is just pissing me off!

I'm tempted to just forget the ones I'm missing and finish the game, heh

I'm not an enormous fan of the part of the game I'm at right now. After dungeon 6, though don't spoil I guess if you haven't gotten through this section..Getting the parts of the Song of the Hero. I thought going back to the desert was cool, but I feel like collecting the notes in Faron was pretty tedious. And now I'm doing the stealth section on Eldin. I like that they got a lot of mileage out of these areas, but I feel like I've gone up and down this same mountain a hundred times. The fire sections in the game have definitely been my least favorite, with the exception of Scaldera, but I kinda wish there was even more to his boss battle too.

@PogueSquadron

Please tell me the Faron Woods note collecting is the worst one.

I decided to come here first and am thoroughly not enjoying this part at all ;p

@kgtennispro

I happened to find that part fun. The volcano section is the worst one in my opinion.

@Scrawnton

Blah. This game was doing so well with me too, heh.

I just really hate the swimming mechanics in this game which just made this part all the more frustrating for me ;p

@kgtennispro
I happen to love the swimming mechanic. I just wish there was more to do with the swimming.

I do love this game but I only have one criticism. This is not a game that's been in development for five years. They either started making it after phantom hourglass came out or they had a completely different type of game they started after TP and scrapped it to start this. The game is great but for a five year dev time it is lacking.

Sixth dungeon spoilers: Fire Sanctuary put me in pain. Digging mitts........ :C !! How could they put so much simple 1.5D game stuff in the last real dungeon. Precious little unique motion puzzles. ...But so, so pretty.

Oddly one part looked built for a whip puzzle, I could only knock down all three green pods at once with the whip from behind a set of bars, but it wasn't for anything that I know of.

End game-ish spoilers: I kind of got what I wanted, more transportable timeshift stone in the last 'dungeon.' But I wish they would stick to real dungeons the whole game. It cheapens the world designs when they are thrown together in a mini master quest-ish gauntlet.

Last boss spoilers: Was anyone reminded of Nosferatu Zodd from Berserk?

@kgtennispro@Scrawnton I liked faron and eldin ones. Lanyru Gorge was my least favorite. =X It wasn't different from what we've been doing in Lanyru already, despite technically being the only brand new area.

@Renjaku the gorge was the easiest. The moment they said I had to grow the tree I knew I had to go to the sealed temple and go back in time. I wish they would've fleshed out the past surface a little more but I still love what we got
11/26/11, 03:33
Well I'm finally at the first dungeon. Haven't gone inside yet though.

I still very much don't like using motion controls for pointing. Would prefer some simple IR. Ah well. Otherwise, having fun.

Anyone notice the picture of Link on the punching bag in Groose's room?

God that guy is douche. I hope I have the opportunity to slice him up.

Man this game is wordy sometimes! The dialogue is great but kind of repetitive sometimes. Like, Fi will reiterate stuff you know allllll the time, like near the beginning of the first dungeon she reminds you to equip a shield and potion...? And after talking to NPCs who say things like "I saw a girl dressed strangely going into the temple" and Fi's all like "There is an 85% chance the girl this character was referring to is Zelda. Perhaps we should go into the temple." I mean, sheesh Nintendo! Aren't you aware of the 13 years of Navi jokes floating around out there? It's made even worse by the fact that you can't skip the dialogue or make it all appear in the box at once.
11/26/11, 03:46
@Shadowlink yeah i saw that and laughed.
11/26/11, 03:57
I thought a lot of Fi's dialogue was intended to be a joke. Whenever she says there's an 85% chance someone could be Zelda, I'm like, well I guess the 15% is for....haha.
11/26/11, 04:08
@TriforceBun

No joke, At the end of temple 3 I walked by the boss door and she started telling me how there were readings behind it and we should try to get in there.

Thanks for the heads up Fi.

Wow! And I thought I was probably the slowest player here! Im at least in the first dungeon, but I have not played the game since last sunday. Things keep coming up. I guarentee I will be playing this bad boy here in a while!
11/26/11, 04:29
@gamewizard65 Well despite thinking to myself "I have all of this free time, I'm going to play a ton of Zelda!" I've actually been hanging out with my girlfriend and my family a lot over my mini break. So... in a weird way, the more free time I have, the less I seem to spend it on video games? Because during a normal working week I don't really hang out with anyone, I just come home and detress (IE play video games/etc.) but when I have free time I like to be around other people. Tough to play a single player game when you're with other people.
