Alrighty everyone, the game is finally out in all primary regions.... IDreamofHime was the first to receive their copy here on the boards. This is the place to discuss it!!!

Welcome to the thread on Negative World where all wondrous Zelda talk can occur. I would recommend that if you wanna talk about deeper-game stuff as we get going, perhaps spoiler-tag it and then describe outside of spoilers where in the game it is. The recent Super Mario 3D Land Discussion Thread is a good example. That'll allow people who aren't too far to read the thread without actually spoiling stuff for them. Just try to be courteous but definitely have fun with the game and discussions!!

Have ye what it takes?

Be sure to hit up the Skyward Sword Game Page and add the game to your collection once you've received yours. Be sure to mark it as "Playing" while you work on it and after you're played it sufficiently, give it a score you deem fitting!

If you've beaten the game, click on over to roykoopa64's Skyward Sword story/ ending discussion (SPOILERS), and general thoughts thread! It's like this thread part deux!!

When I play new Zelda is marathon through the story and then immediately do a second play thru that is 100%. I just need to know the story ASAP and it was worth it.

Oh, sweet.

Yeah I'm probably like 20-25 hours into the game and I just beat the fifth dungeon. I probably did side stuff for like 2 hours last night. I always make it a point to return to Skyloft after big things happen to see what I can upgrade, what's new on sale, what I can afford at Beedle's shop, etc. I also poke around to see what new little quests have popped up, whether I can get anything from Batreaux, etc. I should actually head back to the Lumpy Pumpkin soon to see what else I can do there.

And of course, I always have to give Fledge his nightly serving of man-juice. Yes, that's the joke I make to myself whenever I do that sidequest.

I'm leading up to the 3rd dungeon, completely enthralled by this game. I constantly think about it when I'm not home, playing. I think a big part of it is I haven't played an epic adventure game like this in a while. Feels good, man.

I had the game freeze on me in the Lanayru desert after activating a time-warp crystal, but luckily I had saved a couple minutes prior.

I'm not gonna spoil anything but if you plan on doing a second play through after you beat it, make ure you back up your first save before you fight the last boss because the second play through wipes your original play through.

Question: is there a warp mechanic I'm not aware of? Specifically something to jump me back to either Skyloft or the isle of songs?
11/24/11, 08:06
@PogueSquadron if there is its an optional thing I skipped because I never had that.

@Scrawnton Yeah I don't think there is. I'm still not exactly sure what I think of the flying. I love what it does for the mood and atmosphere and story. This is Link's home, and it's how their world works. The sky is so free, with the forbidden unknown below the clouds. From a gameplay standpoint, it can be a little annoying. I don't think the motion controls really add anything to the flight besides some slight annoyance. I think that's why I tend to distract myself with sidequests, because sometimes I'm just not ready to dart from here to there and then back there immediately.

I saw that there's a way to upgrade the beetle to give it some speed, but I guess there's no way to upgrade your loftwing in any way?

@PogueSquadron I'm really not sure. I remember at nights the guards say only special knights can fly at night. There is no main quest that does a night flying for you but maybe there is a side quest? I still have all of thanksgiving break to do my second quest with allllll side quests
11/24/11, 08:19
@Scrawnton I was just under the impression that you can't fly at night, period. I think this is intentional only because the land below doesn't have alternate states of day and night.

I thought I was really going to miss the realtime day/night mechanic, but the way the game is designed, I don't miss it to be honest. I don't really think about it. Also, visibility on Skyloft sucks at night, so maybe they couldn't figure out how to do the graphics properly in every area of the game to warrant a day/night mechanic like in Ocarina and Wind Waker. Or maybe they just wanted to focus their efforts elsewhere (and boy did they).

The sidequests in this game have been pretty fun.

For some reason the gratitude crystals make them feel all the more satisfying. The only one I hated so far was stupid Fun Fun Island ass. I help him out so he can get his island up and running, and then he makes me play his stupid game over and over and over again to win his stupid special prize ;p

I got my wallet up to being able to hold 5900 rupees, and decided it was time to start heading to the 6th dungeon finally. Won't be getting there until Friday though it seems, heh.

Ya know, the main theme is good and all, but I like battle themes, and once I heard this, I knew I was in for some great stuff.

It really got me pumped since you really can't mess around in the combat. You actually gotta focus on your movement.

@Scrawnton
Wow. That's ridiculously fast. My game will prob be like 70-80 hrs which it was for TP. Love soaking it all in.

Any big wtf twists like I'm thinking there is?
11/24/11, 11:27
I'm so pissed. I figured that my copy would have been delivered on Wednesday since it arrived in Fargo Tuesday morning. Now I got to wait till hopefully Friday.
11/24/11, 11:48
@carlosrox. Yeah there are some wtf twists. And some clever twists. I'm not gonna get any specifics but it involves things you've already seen. At the beginning you see something and wonder what it is and later you will say "holy shit, that's what it is??"

I think the story is great. It gives you enough to know its relation to other Zelda's but leaves enough alone to still keep you thinking. Ima start my second play thru today and take in everything now.

Here is a minor gameplay or item spoiler of the second play through or her mode if you want to know. treasure and bugs caught carry over. I just checked and I still have all treasure from monster that I had left over

@Scrawnton
I have a theory about a certain character but I doubt it's correct. It'd blow my mind if I was right but there seem to be hints that WOULD make sense... I was suspecting earlier with no clues but now I swear there are some subtle clues.

I'll honestly be disappointed if I'm not correct. It'd make the best origin story ever if true. I'll be posting on it later.

But wow. I just poured in several more hours and now I DO understand the overworked/dungeon comments. While true that several Zelda's have had a load of puzzles and all that before a dungeon, this game is ridiculous. You're always in small spaces but they take long to complete since there's so much packed in. It took hours just to get to the third dungeon, and the actual gamespac isn't really that large, there's just a ton to do in that space.

So I completed the third dungeon and completed the next huge part before you return to Skyloft. The Scorpion Boss admittedly wasn't as good as Scaldera, but he was still great. The Wind Item is surprisingly awesome, I already want to see it in future Zelda's.

I've also really begun to love the controls, motion controls, etc. Game is fucking designed to perfection. The dungeon was incredible. Music, concept, and design were top notch. Great to see Zelda approaching technological territory. Was surreal to see missiles and electrical machinery in here.

This game is blowing my mind with each minute. The Imprisoned thing was jaw dropping.

I texted my friend the following quote last night. "honestly I think skyward sword is a mix between Zelda and portal. By that I mean the puzzles are like those in portal (without actual portals) where you go from room to room and solve a environmental based puzzle that has multiple stages."

I really do think the puzzles in this game are the best in the series.

I'm watching my sis play now. She's stuck in the first dungeon, she can't figure out the eye. You guys have any ideas of what's a good hint without giving it away?

Here was my hint: I had her describe everything she currently saw in the room. She described a few things, including the eye with the swirling pattern in it. After she was done I told her that among everything she said she described something extremely relevant.
