Funnily enough, Nintendo actually published a side-by-side comparison of a counterfactual Switch 1 Bananza as part of Ask the Developer.

Star Fox 64 is so simple that it'll be sort of a pure graphical benchmark, yeah. The art style doesn't do much for me personally, but realistic graphics connoisseurs seems to have given it the thumbs up.

@Secret_Tunnel I think that’s what I’m trying to say. DK looks great and has great art but SF seems to be using more modern rendering techniques to really cement it as a graphics showcase on the new technology. Like I said DKB looks really good but you can definitely see it’s Mario Odyssey roots in there.

I'm hoping Nintendo uses this graphical technology to make a really awesome-looking F-Zero game next!

Another thing just popped into my mind: I'm looking forward to this remake to see (er, feel) what the new "HD Rumble" is like.

The original release came packaged with the Rumble Pak and it was kind of a big deal. Subsequent releases also emulated the experience, but it was never exactly the same, IMHO. But with the Switch 2's new capabilities? This game could literally feel brand new.

Kind of a shame the 3DS version lacked this feature entirely.

I mean, if you insist.

I thought the demo was pretty sweet. Yes, it’s Star Fox 64. But the cutscenes seem fun and the game plays incredibly smoothly. Apparently it’s an indie studio, Velan Studios doing the game? Very cool for them.

Graphics really pop. Definitely a showcase for an OLED with all the lasers contrasting against the darkness of space.

The thing that just strikes me still is how much better Star Fox 64 was than every Star Fox game that came after it. They get so caught up with having to do something new with Star Fox that they just forget to make a really good shooter at its core.

Why don’t they just make a new, generally “normal” Star Fox game with secret paths, high scores, big set pieces, etc? I get that it’s a lot of money to throw into such a short game, but maybe just embrace that style of gameplay? As long as it’s good I don’t think people will care if it’s on the shorter side.

Is the non-charged shot in this game any good? I feel like I can't hit anything without it! Will I get better at aiming?

I think it is like asking why other people don't just make a new, generally "normal" Mario game. It's REALLY hard. Even for the Mario guys, who made Mario, it is hard. And as a result, I think they try to do more and add stuff few people really want.

There's a reason there's not a ton of amazing Star Fox games, and it isn't because people don't want to make one.

Now, if Star Fox Switch 2 (why they called it Star Fox I will never grasp) sells decently, it is possible the studio will be brought on to do another. After all, the engine will be fully complete, and they have a good starting ground. Will that happen? Depends on sales, I reckon.

@J.K. Riki Oh I don’t doubt it’s hard to follow up a game like Star Fox 64. I just think they haven’t nearly exhausted what they can do with that style of game. If this remake sells well, I’m hopeful in the future we can see another entry that doubles down on what made the first two games so great, while doing some new and exciting things while taking advantage of modern hardware. . .
