General amiibo Discussion Thread

amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

@DrFinkelstein

Completely forgot about it last night. I might dip into GameStop tomorrow and see what I can do there. I'd rather pay cash than have some phantom withdrawl that I wasn't ready for.

--Ugh! Why do these say "Kirby - 3DS" on them? Do I really want to spend 60+ on stuff I'll NEVER be able to use? Never ever??

And whats going on with this: Wolf Link Amiibo
I thought the only way you could get this thing was via "pack-in"?

And completely unrelated, but it showed up as "related" somewhere in here, any idea why this says "Standard Edition?"
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE - Wii U Standard Edition

EDIT- Here is a question that I found on there, answered by Ploot:

Question: Anyone have a fix to having to play this game in front of your family? I want to avoid dying of embarrassment during the music scenes. A screen maybe?

Answer: It's a wii u game, it's playable on the controller.
Or move out.

@DrFinkelstein I wonder why the girl squid doesn't have darker skin too. Bummer.

@Mr_Mustache Those are probably just people who got the bundle, opened it, and are selling the Wolf Link amiibo separately.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions has a special edition, I'm not sure if it's available on Amazon or only GameStop, but since it exists then Amazon will list the game by itself as "standard edition."

So far only announced for Japan, but Monster Hunter amiibo!

05/26/16, 17:21
@DrFinkelstein

I was going to post about this, haha! Yeah, Monster Hunter Stories will have its own Amiibo! How about that. Won't launch until October this year...and so far, only in Japan. Still...interesting!

@DrFinkelstein I was wondering when this was going to happen. I knew it was a "when" and not an "if!"

@GameDadGrant

I'm sure it'll come out stateside. Amiibo too. I like these amiibo but as a non-fan of the series, I have no desire to get them. They look great though.

Amazon sale

ROB: $6.91
Lucas: $5.69
Mario Classic: $8.14
K'appn: $4.53
Blathers: $4.74
Kicks: $5.58
Rover: $4.27

I feel like they really overestimated the desire for a bunch of different AC Amiibos. I'm honestly legitimately confused why there are so many AC Amiibo.

@Zero

The AC overexposure (and FE overexposure) has been one of Nintendo's several puzzling decisions this gen to me. I've always enjoyed the AC series but I don't know why they're suddenly going all-in with it in terms of marketing. And we don't need Isabelle's face plastered everywhere nowadays either.

@Zero

I wish I hadn't paid full price for those AC amiibo back then. Ugh, what a failure.

I'm liking Summer Isabelle but not as much as my new Waddle Dee! It's excellent!

Speaking of clearing out AC amiibo...

EDIT: Dad gum, how do I image-link a tweet?

@Zero

Whelp. Thanks for the link. I just dropped around $60 on amiibo that I wasn't planning on.

Oh well.

@TriforceBun

If I were you I'd just take a screen grab of the tweet in question and post that as an uploaded image.

Picked up Waddle Dee last night at my GameStop. (Gotta see what you guys suggest in the TMS#FE thread) Didn't get any of the others, SUMMER WEAR ISABELLE (REALLY?) was all reserved out. Where is "Sleeveless Ike?" I'll buy that.
06/11/16, 23:57
Whoa, new Amiibo for Breath of the Wild coming! (2017)

EDIT- Oh crap, theres a bunch of other ones for other games!

New Splatoon figures are NEXT week, yes?
06/29/16, 02:50
@Mr_Mustache

Yes, those should be available on Friday of next week.
06/30/16, 16:47
@ludist210

Do you think we need to reserve them, or are we at a point where you can just swoop 'n scoop?

My GameStop told me that they didn't have any extras of the Kirby ones (save Waddle Dee), but when I was in there the other day, the other 3 were overflowing off their pegs. I dunno.
07/01/16, 02:01
@Mr_Mustache Those look badass. How much is that huge one going to cost?!

I still kind of just want to get Toon Link though. Favorite Link.

Also, how is Diddy Kong part of the "Super Mario" line-up?! Are they just considering DK to be Mario?

@Zero

Is Diddy Kong in Mario Party? I can't recall.
07/01/16, 02:43
Not that I can recall? I only remember him from the DKC / Smash games and Diddy Kong Racing, though he is probably in more somewhere.

Hmm, looking it up online it appears he is in a ton of Mario spin-offs like the sports games, etc. Still, I think of "Donkey Kong" as a separate series from "Mario", even though they did both come from the same origins more or less.

Wait, what the...

Diddy had a brief cameo in "Mad Max Beyond the Thunder Dome." (1987)

Is this just some Wikipedia user trolling us? How did he have a cameo in a movie made like 10 years before his first appearance?!
