General amiibo Discussion Thread

amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

The Top amiibo by Region in 2015 released the other day. Here is is all together.

Interesting trends. The North American market clearly favors unique characters from primarily the Smash Bros. line with Link being the favorite. Europe enjoyed more classic characters and the Splatoon line quite a bit. Then on the other extreme, Japan clearly favored the Splatoon line as well as the Animal Crossing line.

This informs me a bit more on Nintendo's love of Isabelle (as she's likely huge over there) and their huge attraction to Splatoon. However I suspect that the Splatoon amiibo attach rate and interest in the states would have been way higher had the supply been in line with the demand. A lot of folks seemed to be embittered from the challenge to get some.

@DrFinkelstein Yes, thank you for making this topic take even longer to load. ;)

@DrFinkelstein Is this ranking for a certain time period, or overall? If it's overall, there has been a lot of shifting around since the chart released a few months ago. Crazy!

The Splatoon amiibo became plentiful a few months after launch, so you're saying you think people got tried of waiting for them?

@Mop it up

It implied to me that this was all of 2015.

I like the new visuals, Stephen. You went above and beyond!

My Lucas amiibo came in the mail last week. It looks great, and simply having a Mother 3 figurine is awesome.

Next up for me is the Wolf Link & Midna amiibo!

@Mop it up

I went to a local Gamestop today and noticed that they had plenty of Splatoon amiibo in stock. Shovel Knight was there, too. It was nice to see a good selection of amiibo to choose from.

@Mop it up

Seriously. Honestly, the biggest complaint I've had with the NW message boards, is how the OP's initial post is on every single freaking page. Its the only message board, that I'm aware of that has this annoying feature. Its a pain in the ass, having to scroll past the OP's post on every page of a thread, especially if the OP's post is a long one.
02/05/16, 14:36
I agree that the OP on every page is odd, but for some threads it can be a great tool. I liked how the games with multiplayer had the list of active community players right at the top. Maybe make it an optional thing so that the we can determine which is the best fit for each thread?

So the Gold Mega Man is out now. Who is nabbing him? I'm not but I'm also not interested in the game it's coming with.

Did anyone else get a survey opportunity with Nintendo? It was mostly about amiibo and while I praised Splatoon and Yoshi's Woolly World for it's usage, I shat all over Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival.

02/24/16, 05:03
Is it coming alone?

And did I miss some Amiibo? I feel like I did "ship to store" for Best Buy, but..nobody called me.
I don't know whats going on anymore..
02/24/16, 05:47
@Mr_Mustache

Nope. Gold Mega Man is with the collection game only (for now anyway). Not sure if it'll ever be stand alone.
02/24/16, 13:05
@DrFinkelstein

Just out of curiosity, is the Mega Man game with the gold Mega Man amiibo already been released? I saw NWR's weekly show & Neal had the game and amiibo, but I think it was a review copy. I could be wrong. I guess I could do a little research as well.

Also, is the game/amiibo an exclusive to just one retail chain? Thanks in advance for helping out this lazy old dude.
02/24/16, 13:48
@gamewizard65

It's not exclusive and I think it officially released yesterday. I've seen it up at best buy, amazon, gamestop, etc
02/24/16, 15:07
@DrFinkelstein Where did you receive this? Was it in your email or somewhere else? I'd also like to complain about the terribleness of amiibo-locked content, particularly games like Mario Party 10 and Splatoon which are the worst examples of it.
02/24/16, 21:12
@DrFinkelstein

I believe, Mop it Up is referring to the Nintendo survey. Since Club Nintendo is no more, yea, how did you receive the survey. I have to agree with Mop It Up. On one hand, the Splatoon Amiibos do unlock cool shit in the game, though it is bullshit that people have to buy the amiibos to access that content.

At first, the Splatoon amiibos were hard to acquire, very limited. Only way to own all three in NA is the expensice 3 pack, or import them individually, which costs even more. It personally doesn't affect me, since I bought the amiibos at launch. It really doesn't affect me since I don't own the game. Never have been a shooter fan. I've never understood the appeal of those kinds of games. I borrowed my son's copy of the game and enjoyed the single player campaign. Now, if the main part of the game was dedicated to a single player campaign with multiplayer crap as an afterthought, then I'd be more interested in this genre.

Overall, I prefer single player gaming experiences. I don't care to play against other people, unless they are in the same room as me. That way, I can punch them in the face and break their hands and wrists when they beat me.

Picked up Resetti and Celeste today after passing on them initially (due to money).

Toys R Us has the Animal Crossing ones at $9.97. You may be able to get 'em online for that price still, too.
03/11/16, 03:07
Damn, looks like no one gives a shit about amiibos anymore...ha,ha..

Went to Gamestop and picked up Roy, Ryu and Famicon colored ROB, earlier today. I was going to pass on the newer ROB amiibo, and figured, might as well, since I have all the others, minus the cards & animal crossing amiibos. I only had to pay for Roy & Ryu. I had an extra Zero Suit Samus. She was a Xmas gift, but I already had her. I meant to sell her on ebay, but never got around to it. So, I took her to Gamestop and took the chance of getting an even exchange, even though I didn't have a receipt. Mike, the manager was working and knows me fairly well, so it wasn't a problem. Funny thing is, I think she was bought at Walmart. Still, she was brand new in the box. All I know is, I didn't have to pay for the Famicon colored ROB, and that is all that really matters!!

Hell, those AC amiibos are on sale everywhere, Walmart, BB, Target & even Gamespot. They been on sale for about two months and still no one is buying them. I'm thinking if they drop the price again, maybe then I'll snag some up, but I doubt it. I'm sure eventually some fool will buy them all up, thinking they'll make a mint on ebay or Amazon, then he or she will be stuck with a ton of three packs with two freaky looking cow characters.

See, thats what Nintendo gets for making a three pack with only one decent character, KK Slider and sticking a couple no namers with him, thinking, foolish North Americans will buy these up for the one good character. Looks like your strategy backfired on this time, Nintendo.

I think the three pack is at $19.99, which is a good price, but I know nothing about any of these characters. The only two I'm familiar with is, Tom Nook and KK Slider. I would have bought those two, but I wasn't forking out $35 for that craptastic three pack. Now, I'm glad I passed, cause I save ovet $50, and now I really have no interest, especially since I've never played an AC game.

@gamewizard65

So I'm reading that you don't like AC and so you don't like the characters. Fair enough.

For me, a huge Animal Crossing fan, the character amiibos and cards are a huge delight, however I suspect their sales are due to the last two games being not full on entries in the franchise. The 3DS title was fun enough but the Wii U one was essentially a bust.
03/22/16, 11:52
They actually had Shovel Knight at my local Target which is weird since they usually only have Mario, Peach, etc. They're expanding quite a bit though. They also had R.O.B., is that a rare one?

Was tempted to get Shovel Knight but I refuse to pay full price for these things.
03/22/16, 16:08
@Zero

I've seen a bit of Shovel Knight out and about. Famicom ROB is still new, and since Nintendo's supply chain has improved, it's not rare...yet.
03/22/16, 21:33
Well, Target is having a buy 1 get 1 half off on all Amiibo (as well as Disney Infinity / etc.) so I grabbed up Shovel Knight and ROB.

This brings my total to 6: Fox, Samus, Shulk, Olimar, Shovel Knight, ROB.
