Hello, true believers! Welcome to Negative World's newest RPG-centric Club Hub, springing off the heels of the Fire Emblem Club. Way back when, Nintendo Power introduced a monthly walkthrough / in depth Role Play Game section (right around the beefiest SNES RPG era), but since they aren't around anymore to use it, Negative World will bring it out of the ashes, dust it off, and roll with it (two things of note: #1, this is not in reaction to Nintendo Force Magazine at all -- I know that because I thought of it in the shower this morning, so THERE; and #2, I just looked up "Epic Center RPG" on Yahoo, and there is apparently another RPG-based site that has that, ugh. I guess we're looking at a "Ghostbusters" / "Real Ghostbusters" thing now... Whatever..).

For anyone who grew playing SNES RPGs, and were a fan of them, they surely resonated to the point where they still hold office as some of your favorite games of your entire videogame life, systems, generations, and decades later. The NW Epic Center (run primarily by myself, with the aid of some special friends occasionally) will help to expose some of those games that didn't quite get the recognition they deserved, and also to relive some of the greatest games EVER as we play through them again -- together -- and open up a whole new dialogue on these lost treasures.

Next up..

Chrono Trigger is held by many (myself included) as The Greatest RPG of All Time, pun not intended. It is a benchmark title in the genre, and even after 20 years the game is discussed daily and held in high regard, even in the face of juiced-up, HD "masterpieces." Is simpler sometimes better? Sure, but we're not talking "Dragon Warrior" simple here; we're talking 16-bit perfection at its finest. I'm personally a bit worried about pursuing this game once more; it's been a long time since my last jog through it, and I'm afraid I might have the rosiest pair of glasses that any shot of nostalgia could ever produce. We find out later this month, for better or for worse. (C'mon, it's gonna be fine -- we're talking Chrono Trigger here!! THE BEST, JERRY, THE BEST!!)

Sunday, August 30th marks the start of Week 1 (if you prefer to start your own quest AFTER Sunday, like Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday, thats fine!). Golden Sun ran 6 Weeks. GameDadGrant will be our DUNGEON MASTER for this one, and we figure the playthrough to run about the same length. Less than two months. I'm told the total quest should last you between 20 and 30 hours.

See ya soon!!

@Shadowlink

When are you getting Monster Hunter: Radical Edition? Do you have a timetable? Sorry if I missed it.
03/31/13, 00:41
@Mr_Mustache

Is that the WiiU one or 3DS one?

Probably won't get the 3DS one. The WiiU one I'll wait until I see it cheap so I can mitigate the cash I burned on the last one.
03/31/13, 00:44
@Shadowlink

Wii U one! I can't even play the 3DS one with you, let alone hear about you playing the 3DS one with anyone because of lack of internet outside of local Wi-Fi. Right?

--Wait until cheap? Aww man.. I thought we were hunting in April!

Done with week 3. Didn't know that dragons so closely resembled hummingbirds in their flying abilities.
03/31/13, 01:13
@VickiL

Haha, totally!! They're all zippin' around there.

Welcome to Week 3 Winner's Circle!

@Mr_Mustache

I'm leveling up magic because of a boss I'm stuck at. I think its near the end of week one.

@DrFinkelstein

Is it the Fire Gigas? Yeah, that'll probably help. I did it by spamming a Level 0 Freeze spell and normal attacks, Level 1 should plaster him.

You only need to use a level 0 spell 12 times to get that magic to Level 1. (9 XP per use, Level up @ 100). Don't bother going higher than that, Until you get another Mana seed, you can't get to a higher level.

Also, chain cast as per Dark Were's advice:

Starting the "Finishing Week 3" in a few minutes, so I'll put up Week 4 for you dudes now..

WEEK 4 - TO THE MOON, ALICE

Week 3 gave us our 4th Mana Seed. Lets work on some more, eh?:

-After taking the King to Matango (SI#1), take Flammie SW to Mandala in the mountains.
-Leave the town and go far to the east to the Lofty Mountains. Climb to the top for new orders.
-The Dark Palace is the destination. Do what you do, and get more Magic!
-We're told to go elsewhere, flying NE to Gold Isle.
-Once you get inside the Light Palace (SI#2), fight your way through to get another Mana Seed.
-Returning the Lofty Mountains, the chase continues to the Moon Palace (SI#3)
-Get another Mana Seed and Luna to end your week.

And that's it! Short week? Don't miss Bonus #4! You can read/do that immediately without ruining story stuff.

Special Instructions #1:
Maybe you did this late last week; Matango should be SW of Northtown, so I'm told.

Special Instructions #2:
The Light Palace is locked. A man in town will have some info. FInd him, and he'll tell you to talk to creepy Mara in Southtown. She's that gremlin lady. Anyway, she'll give you a Golden Tower Key, and you'll be all set to enter.

Special Instructions #3:
This is north of Kakkara. You probably saw it the first time you took Cannon Travel here. I always thought it looked like a giant tar pit. Land below it, and Karon will ferry you across.

Special Instructions #4:
There is a tiny, tiny island somewhere on this globe. You can get a Sea Hare's Tail there, and bring it to Kakkara to let the water flow again. Doing this from memory, I believe you're rewarded with a Moogle Belt? Helpful!

You'll have 3 new things to grind up after this one is over, so the shorter thing should help you out a bit. I coulda made this a little heavier this week, but then the next two weeks would be heavy, too. Possibly TOO heavy. We'll finish in 6 weeks total, Week 6 looks awesome. Though Week 5 is probably awesome, too.. And, you know, Week 4. GREAT GAME, YEAHHH!!
03/31/13, 06:57
Finished Week 3 a little while ago. I was teasing Nikki (a little..) because she'd charge her thing up to 5, let it rip, and nothing would hit. And one time it landed and only did 41 damage, haha. So, the next hit, its like 421 and she goes "...JE-SUS!" I guess you had to be there. Hilarious. I landeda 525 a short while after, but that was still a landmark. And she's kickin' butt w/ the Sprite, of course, and wicked magic. MVP for the Vampire fight, and then she got the final hit with her Spear to boot. Rad.

But yeah, toootally over halfway now, both in Weeks and content. Awesomefest.

EDIT- Oh! And you guys got to see my wicked Armored Man things this week! Wasn't that music..THE BEST!?

Doom Traps are assholes.
03/31/13, 10:08
Whoa, that was shorter than I though it'd be. No dungeon in the Moon Palace. BOOM, Final room. Huh.

Prob level some stuff up whilst I watch DVD's tomorrow or something.
03/31/13, 13:29
@Shadowlink

How long did it take you? Hour:15?
03/31/13, 20:10
Done as well. This was really short...about an hour and a half I guess. The Moon Palace was ridiculously easy.

By the end of it all, my characters were at level 38, most weapons were maxed out, and some spells were maxed out. I even picked up the bonus item. Woohoo!

What the hell?!

Loaded up to do some grinding today and my save file is gone?!

#%*#@%&!@!!!!!

Forget this. I'm out.
04/01/13, 01:42
@Shadowlink

Wait, what? Oh no! Was it on a cartridge or Virtual Console?

Would you want mine? My grinding isn't as high as yours, but...you'd be back at the same place you were. I think it's possible to move it from SD to my PC, then your PC to SD to Wii?

@Shadowlink

Huh? How'd that happen?? Are you on the VC? I..I don't even know what to suggest (unless what Ludist is suggesting will work, but in that case you'll be named Lewis or something).
04/01/13, 02:53
@Mr_Mustache

Something to do with the time differential I think.

I don't want to be Lewis! I want to be Tim!

And damn, missed you guys in chat. I really wish it beeped or something.

Scheduled to do Secret of Mana stuff tonight. Can we get in and out in under one hour? We'll see!
04/02/13, 01:08
@Mr_Mustache

It's possible. The only reason it took me longer than that was because I had no clue where I was navigating to.

I'd love to see a remaster of this with a better map system. That's about my only complaint about this game to this point.
04/02/13, 16:19
Only got through the Shadow deal before Nikki was conking out. Actually, she was conking out BEFORE that. *sigh*

Friday revisit.
