The last 2D Mario we will see for a good long while. Will it live up to the hype?

Yeah there are the small yoshis... they're ok. They only come around every so often though and they don't really seem to do much.

I actually found NSMB Wii surprisingly tough. But I also pretty much suck at games these days.

Have you guys tried Coin Edit mode in Coin Battle? Suprisingly compelling!

I want to make a level with one coin.

Speaking of Battle, why isn't there some type of Deathmatch mode? Super Mario War has already shown us that it can be tons of fun. Actually, so did the Mario Bros. mini-game in SMB3.

Game cleared! Well, the first eight worlds anyways (and 9-1). All Star Coins through 9-1 collected, and I have three shiny stars on my save file now.

Meanwhile, VickiL died about a dozen times trying to get through Morton Koopa Jr.'s castle. I'll beat the game, but it'll take time.

Beat it! Last boss was pretty fun, probably on par with the Wii version overall. The game was decent but it really shines in the challenges mode, IMO. Now to get all the star coins...

Agreed. Bowser Jr. added a different but interesting dynamic to that fight. Even if it was a bit easy, it was still fun. Much more fun that New Super Mario Bros. 2's boss for sure (which was boring the first time and got worse each subsequent time).

9-2 owned me. I can get the first two star coins, but I die pretty soon afterwards. Yikes...

Just bought NSMBU a couple of minutes ago. Will share my thoughts on it later.

I think I agree. The main game feels a bit "same old" (I finished the first 8 worlds) and I even felt a bit disappointed, but the more I crack into the challenge mode, the more I enjoy the game.

Challenge Mode is getting pretty brutal now--we're talking DKCR territory. I've done (i.e. golded) about ten challenges in each category so far without too much trouble, but I'm starting to hit some serious roadblocks. Thought I was pretty hot stuff in that circle-of-Boos van Gogh stage early on, but the game is starting to humble me now. Well played, Mario U!

@TriforceBun Do we know how many challenges there are?

Maybe I don't want to know. It's fun finding out within game.

I finished 9-8 but missed the last Star Coin (even though I know where it is, the switch went off before I could get to it). So I have every Star Coin but that one and the three in 9-9 (which I assume I can access once I beat 9-8 with the third coin).

World 9 is challenging. 9-2 and 9-8 especially gave me fits. I'm assuming 9-9 will be as tough as it gets.

The "Nonstop Flight" challenge freaking took me forever. Tough as balls. I hope the challenge keeps up!

Found my first secret exit today. Fun, great homage to SMB as in all other 2D Mario games.

Finished all nine worlds with all star coins. Five shiny stars! Hooray!

Now to tackle all of the challenges...

@ludist210

How...? I did all of that and only have 4 stars.

@VofEscaflowne

Have you caught Nabbit in every world?

@Guillaume

Yeah I did... though I'm not sure if I got a star for it. I do remember getting a message popping up for it though.

Also I remember reading in a review that getting all star coins was definitely worth it for this game. Am I missing something? I got them all and the "final" level was very underwhelming.

@VofEscaflowne

Nope, that was it as far as I know.

Did you find all exits (should be 94 Mario flags I believe)? That's worth a star.
12/13/12, 21:09
@ludist210

I'm not sure how many I have. I'll have to check that out later. Again, part of the reason why I don't like how this game doesn't give you any indication whatsoever that there might be a secret to find. Though I guess that's part of what makes it secret... but it sucks for completionists who have to check a guide

Did you see the helper thing? I never hit it but I saw it and maybe that's why we're screwed on a fifth star.
