Hey dude, glad you like it ;)

What weapon type are you doing? I'm a Sword and Shield guy. I think whatever weapon set you're using, our "specialist" can help you the most. According to that chart up there, I GUESS I'm the most experienced S/S guy, Fabz would be our Hammer Brother, and Anand would be Mr. Bowgun.

Assuming you're talking about Sword and Shield.. --I keep a cabinet of ALL of my weapons. Within my abilities, over time, I've created every possible Sword/Shield on my tree. You've noticed that you can forge a new weapon, yes? You can turn Sword one into two or three different swords. And if you start a new Bone sword, or whatever, THAT can turn into two or three more as well. And then each of those can/might branch off.

I don't think you'll have elemental stuff for a bit. You COULD be, but its so long ago I don't remember!

Monster Elemental. The easiest way (without looking up which I am vehemently against) is to -- after you beat a monster and you have their spoils, you can go to forge armor. If you look at that armor, it says what you're strong against. If the armor you're making has -4 Ice protection, you had better believe that that thing doesn't like getting hit with anything cold, haha.

And you should get your sleep..unless you're on an 8 hour binge like myself twice every three weeks..

The deeper you go, the higher you fly.

Don't worry too much about things you don't understand yet. If you keep playing, you'll clue in, one little bit at a time. The early going shouldn't require much expertise. Like these guys said, if your Sharpness decreases, use a whetstone.

Cool, thanks guys. I'm looking forward to playing some more tonight from 11PM - 12:30AM, which appears to be the only time I can pull myself away from work and life to play such a game. Cuts in to sleep, but not so much that I'm a zombie the next day.

@-JKR-

When are you taking the show online? Don't take that as "get in here, NOW!" because thats not what I'm saying.

You don't take to the ocean until you can swim in a pool, ya know? What have you done so far?
09/28/10, 02:15
I can play tonight, but not too late - early day tomorrow. Anybody interested?
09/28/10, 02:16
@anon_mastermind

I think the wife and I need to catch up on some TV. I feel work is going to take me pretty late tonight though, too..

I'll probably be on Wednesday or Thursday night though for sure, and possibly tomorrow.
09/28/10, 02:22
Yeah, probably Tuesday or Wednesday for me.
09/28/10, 02:45
I can play tonight at 9pm...

Who is interested!

I'm not nearly comfortable enough with the game yet to jump into online play. I imagine it will still be a while. Gotta figure all this out first. (Especially water battles. Really rough for me.)

@-JKR-

Take your time, brother.

Water is nasty, yeah. I agree, I don't like going in there either. You will find your bearings though.
What weapon are you using again? I don't know if you ever said.

If you're going with the sword and shield, just be sure to block as much as you can.
I mean, you don't HAVE to, but pretty much EVERYTHING in the game, at least the early stuff, is blockable.
Any charge or projectile meets defeat upon your shield. Later on that isn't 100% the case..

@Smerd

Success stories, Smerd? I hope someone joined you.

@Mr_Mustache

Yeah :) Was just about to leave but then Anon (Mikey) came on..we did a fishing quest - the last of my 1 star online quests to do..silly goldenfish...

Anyways..I picked the switch axe for the first time and the fishing quest to experiment with it... It blows...I'm sticking to the hammer or switching to a sword. Just our luck, the Royal Ludroth showed up.... I was close to useless (first the weapon was an axe..then a sword..all with different swings so I couldn't score a good hit)...fainted twice..and let Mikey take over - he did a great job. Thanks to him, I got some goodies, finished the quest so urgent quests are now unlocked....and gained a level.. yay!

If you're not afraid of spoilers, I suggest going to the monster hunter tri wiki page of all the weapons to get an idea of what you should get / save for. Same goes for armors
09/28/10, 06:15
Um, I was using the hunting knife or whatever I started with, and then I switched to a big, slow-as-dirt sword. I want to go back to the quicker weapon (I like quick weapons in any game) but the other one does SO much more damage... I dunno. What do you think?

I would be joining you all but I have two problems. 1. My Wii can't eject disks and 2. I can't find my MH3 disk anywhere.

Maybe the disc is IN THE WII!!!! Solves both problems.

As for my weapon choice, I guess tonight I'll be dipping into the other types and see how they feel to use. Then I'll make my decision.

Not looking forward to the blow gun, though. I imagine I'm going to get wrecked trying to shoot a monster from a foot away while they tear out my throat.
09/28/10, 15:54
No, the great thing about the bowgun is that you get to be cowardly and shoot from a distance. Especially in multiplayer. Make sure to use Pellet shot (shotgun, essentially) in solo play during the early going.

And remember that you can manually aim with the R-Trigger. Headshots are always nice.

But after you shoot them once, don't they come flying at you and rip off your head?
09/28/10, 17:56
@-JKR-

They may...I'm not an expert on the bowgun, but you should be able to get a bunch of shots off before a monster gets to you (especially in the early-goings). If not...dodge. Quickly.
