Hmm. Fine, but you lose 5% of your share every month until the trilogy finished.

@Stan McStanly Don't worry. I mean what's 5% of a share of nothing?

Hey I have a job now. 6 figures.

The ones after the decimal point count, right?

@Stan McStanly 11/02/25 it's been like 40-something days since I got to the final boss and I haven't tried again to defeat him since this post. Zero hasn't noticed yet. It's only a matter of time before he gets on my case again. I'm not sure how long I can hold out. Rations (his bank account) running low. Must find the will to continue.....

Didn't you get to its second form and just didn't realize you had to switch between visors to see it? Once you're there you're basically done, that part is fairly short.
11/03/25, 13:09
Yes and no, I did try swapping visors and I still couldn't find it. Maybe the stars aligned and I managed to fail to see it because I was looking in the wrong direction at the wrong time. For an entire attempt.

Basically just stand on goo, get correct visor on, blast away. It is a little confusing the first time but once you understand it, it's not too tough. On occasion it will switch forms super rapidly though.

I'd also say that is probably the most annoying fight in the trilogy as far as how long it is. Took me forever on hard mode.

@Zero

Think so? I struggled with a few other bosses in Prime 1 way more, and never even beat Prime 2 I think because of some of them.

I haven't played Prime 2 or 3 in ages, but with 4 coming out I want to go in fresh.

Anyone see that new trailer? It's the most interesting they've made the game look so far, but I still don't get what the hook is.

Which version of the game are you all getting?

On the one hand, the Switch 1 boxart is undeniably better. So if I wanted to display it, I feel like that would take the cake. There's also something about remembering that this is a SWITCH 1 game that helps set my expectations as to what this game actually is. Of course, I'd just get the Switch 2 upgrade separately, which I assume is possible?

On the other hand, I do kind of want to support the Switch 2 Retail version for some reason. Maybe it doesn't matter, but like supporting the new system, and I'm sure it'll also be easier to set up and play right away.

IGN said:
“This is fine,” I thought. I prefer isolation in Metroid, but I don’t mind running into a character here and there to flesh out the story with some voice acting and cutscenes. But then…

“If it's OK with you, I’m gonna tag along. So, where to? It might be a good idea to check the map and get our bearings.”

I started to get a sinking feeling. In one turn, Samus not only gained an unwanted companion, that companion also instantly started chiming in on what I should be doing, like Atreus to Kratos in God of War, or Aloy to… Aloy in Horizon. The next 20 minutes of my demo ranged from mildly annoying to downright infuriating, as Myles constantly bombarded me with either awkward attempts at quippy humor…

“It’s about to get reeeeal nerdy in here!”

Unwelcome hints that directly defy Metroid’s spirit of exploration and discovery:

“Missiles are effective against a creature with a hard shell, you know."

He would scold me for not stopping to save my game:

“Samus, there's something interesting over there. Are you sure we don’t need to use that?”

Comment on everything I scanned:

“Can you read that? Does that say anything about this place? They really don’t want anyone in here. Must be a sacred space.”

State the obvious:

“I can see the door, Samus! Let's get out of here.”

And he’d scream whenever an enemy popped out of the ground suddenly. I promise I’m not cherrypicking here – I was in complete disbelief at how Myles was constantly talking during gameplay, to the point where I dug around the settings menu to see if I could tone it down.

@Secret_Tunnel
Aw man, they got modern gaming all over my Metroid!

I'm getting this day 1 and the new trailer looks great, but the NPCs filled me with some trepidation for this very reason.

@TriforceBun

It is possible they're trying to do something subversive here where they kill off all the NPCs halfway through or something, but barring that, even if this is "merely" a 30-minute tutorial, it's difficult to describe how misguided I think that is compared to Super Metroid's quiet effortlessness. There is an irony to IGN describing these escort elements as "outdated," because that still frames the design question in a way that sort of fundamentally inverts the point, like the critic is thinking in terms of "player onboarding" as a discipline that's linearly progressed over the years as opposed to games being primarily hostile alien artifacts that are only incidentally legible through the timeless art of masterful composition.
11/14/25, 17:33
Some of the NPC stuff sounds very questionable to me, especially if there is no way to turn off the "hints" that are just telling you what to do.

But on the other hand this new video actually got me excited.

This game is probably going to be too polarizing to review as well as the other 3, but I think it has a chance of at least being able to stand with them for me personally.

We'll see.

I hope his stay is short lived…the dialogue is sounding like some of the cringey stuff is usually hear in lower budget indie games, where the dialogue is trying to hard to sound like Gilmore Girls or something.
11/16/25, 08:49
Oh his stay will be short lived. Because there are 4 other NPCs you have to save.

To be honest this doesn't feel that out of place to me. Prime 3 kind of already opened up the door to a bunch of NPCs, and Retro uh... for everything else they are good at, they're not that great at characters and dialog. Remember that girl that liked pranking people and called Samus "Sammy"?

Not what I want from Metroid but after 3 I've sort of just accepted that this is the direction they're taking things. I want an extension of Prime 1, seems like we're maybe getting more of an extension of Prime 3, though who knows. Maybe Prime 4 will be the Aliens to Prime 1s Alien.

Whatever the case, I've been watching footage and there is a lot of cool looking stuff in this game. I saw a bike area that was like a road out of Tron or something, looked very cool. We'll just have to see how it all comes together.

Yeah the quieter footage does look cool, and does make this look like an extension of 3. The IGN preview made it sound like the entire game would be an escort mission, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

On the one hand, shame on me for wanting Metroid Prime 4 to be more than a sequel to Metroid Prime 3. On the other hand, Super Metroid being the world-class blend of narrative and arcade action makes me naturally pine for a Metroid game that's an evolution of that. "Isolation" and "environmental storytelling" are actually just ingredients for great games in general, and when Metroid emphasizes those, it naturally trends towards masterpieces. Metroid Prime understood the assignment; I'd give it a B+. Metroid Prime 3 and 4 seem disinterested in shooting for the same thing. 3 was a fine story-based action-adventure game, and I'm sure 4 will be too.
11/16/25, 21:02
One thing is for sure, Nintendo bungled the lead up to this game. The early trailers didn't show much interesting, and by the time a bunch of the interesting stuff is coming out every press outlet is too busy worrying about THE GUY WHO SAYS "NERDY" to actually talk much about the rest of the game.

There is a parallel world out there somewhere where they made the same game but promoted it much, much better.
11/16/25, 23:07
Yeah the chatty NPC was a weird choice, but who knows how it'll all play out. Very different vibe from the openings of some other Metroid games, but from what I've gathered the actual gameplay is as fun as ever. And of course the game looks gorgeous.

I have a prediction for the end of the game. There will be an "escape sequence" after the defeat of the final boss, and you'll have to race out of there on the motorcycle before everything explodes to smithereens. Or it could be a chase scene at the end, either going after someone or something, or being chased by it. Or! Or! It could be like Starfox 64's ending where it's both an escape sequence AND a chase sequence at the same time!

Anyway, still looking forward to this.

Anddddddd reviews are out.

Not as good as I hoped, not as bad as I feared. Sounds like a good game with some strange decisions and too much hand holding?

This will probably be a very polarizing game.

I really have no idea what to make of these reviews. Is this a tarnished masterpiece? A critically underrated gem that does things reviewers don't value? A totally mediocre average video game that there isn't anything interesting to say about?

The description of the game's structure as Zelda-like is intriguing to me.
