The wait is nearly over. The game is being detailed left and right by the media,… the amiibo have been announced,… and the Nintendo Switch is imminent… The Legend of Zelda series has been a special one for Nintendo fans since it began and the next chapter starts on March 3rd, 2017.
A hero's tale begins anew. Open your eyes and see what is true.
Fun Facts: Vast open world where you could go find the end of the game within 15 minutes… but you won't survive it. Weapons have stats and durability. Climb pretty much anything you want. Eat and cook to regain health. Full voice-acting for all except Link
Lets use this thread to discuss the game on the Nintendo Switch. To help hold the tide of the wait, here are some beautiful screenshots and links for your perusal.
On the topic of how we're all scattered in different areas, I wonder what paths everyone has taken? It's interesting for me to think about where I've gone, when and why. (Again, a tracking feature would have been AWESOME for this game.) Broadly speaking, my game has progressed kind of like this:
- Plateau - Road to Kakariko - Hateno Village becayuse fuck if I'm going to go right to Kakariko first, you don't own me game! - Oh Hateno people want me to see Impa. FINE. - Kakariko. - Back to Hateno (sigh). I'm going to take the scenic route though.... - Ok I'm finally here. Go down to the beach you say? Ok. Ooh an island. (Eventide) - Killed. - Killed again. - Killed a bunch more. - Fuck this island. - Back to Kakariko. I should hunt down Robbie. - WANDER EVERYWHERE. - Meet the Zora prince. - WANDER ALL OVER ZORA'S DOMAIN. - Eh. I wanna check out that thing they told me about in Hateno. - WANDER EVERYWHERE SOME MORE. - Hey maybe I can take another crack at Eventide now. - Seriously, fuck this island. - Back to Zora's Domain. Complete Zora lead up. I'll just head back to Kakariko for a moment to do one quick thing... - ANOTHER 6 HOURS OF WANDERING. - Dungeon complete! Yay? - Ugh my weapons are full. Where did that weed say he was headed? Oh yeah. - Head north. Activate all the towers. - WANDER ALL OVER THE NORTH/NORTHEAST. - Except Death Mountain, because seriously, what the hell. - Ok, enough of this nonsense. Eventide is gonna get conquered. - Hooray! Where to now? Death Mountain sucks ass. Lets check out the south. - WANDER ALL OVER FARON PROVINCE.
....And that's where I'm at.
(Also co-op would utterly ruin my wanderings. There'd be constant fighting over where to go.)
That sounds terrible. Don't you feel like you've seen a bit of everything already?
I'm glad I still have numerous entire chunks of land I haven't even seen yet. The entire desert chunk is 95% mystery to me, as is the snow, Death Mountain, Akalla, Hyrule Castle, and many areas of the regions I've been to are still needing some good digging in to.
I unlocked 2 of the western Towers back to back and figure I'll be spending some time here before I do the DB. I feel a bit sad seeing the western edge of the world though. Oh and I only flirted with the beach/water on the east side.
Still soooooo much to see. I wonder what my total play time to finish will be. 2 months? 2 months of basically hours daily mind you. Pretty unprecedented.
@carlosrox Yeah I've been basically sticking in whatever area of the map I'm in without leaving it too much. Here and there I will cross out to do a shrine or something but I like the idea of leaving huge chunks unexplored for later in the game.
Well nothing out west, except one weird glowy part. Like I said, that entire edge of the map is still blank- What, 5 or 6 regions?
And I haven't really scoured Faron yet, not like I did Lanayru, (or to a lesser extent Akalla.)
Half the reason I kept getting distracted in Lanayru was because I kept seeing something new in my travels in previous areas that I missed the first time. Heck, I only just found a hidden shrine near the first stable yesterday. Even in areas you figure you explored pretty well, I guarantee there's plenty more to do.
A hidden shrine that's easily the biggest and most in depth yet (with a at this point new little mechanic), and music that isn't your usual jingles you seem to hear everywhere else.
I learned what you get today when you get all 900 Korok seeds. The reward you get actually makes the Korok quest kind of hilarious in hindsight when you think about it.
@TriforceBun Yeah I saw that too. I think this game pretty much hits the sweet spot in terms of self-awareness and humor for Zelda.
I think the only major-ish complaint I have is the mainline dialogue writing and voice acting. The recovered memories especially seem out of step with the rest of the game's (extremely high) quality.
You can cheat the island!! Before you run onto the beach or a side island, use Cryonis as close as possible to the beach, stand on top of the block, drop any equipment or material you'd like to have, jump down to the beach, start the event, then go pick up your equipment.
I actually died a few times even doing that, mostly because I was goofing off or got stomped by a mob. I got sick of repeating the sequence, so I just ran naked and completed the event as quickly as possible, only picking up a boat oar and a rusty sword.
@TriforceBun Can you give a slight hint? I'm very curious what it is but know I'll see it eventually as my plan is to basically 100% this game, but I know it won't be annnnny time soon.
Like, I think I've found around 100 or so and feel like I've found soooo many. Blows my effin mind that there's still 9x as many. Wtf.
This probably isn't the type of hint you're looking for, but the reward has a lot more value if you speak Japanese or know a particular fact about Japanese culture. If you don't know Japanese culture, the reward feels like it has meta commentary implications (which might be part of the intention, but that seems unlikely to me given the meaning behind the reward).
@carlosrox I don't really know what it DOES, but the humor is more in what it IS. And it actually retroactively makes the Korok Seed quest really funny in hindsight. That's probably the most I can say about it to keep it vague.
I made it to the region where my last Divine Beast is (Southwest/Gerudo one). Spent most of the week exploring the southern/Faron region. It was still good, because the whole game is, but this was definitely the weakest area of the game I've been to so far. Not as much interesting stuff going on, outside of a really cool area with a lot of waterfalls where things were pretty densely-packed with secrets. And it rains all the time there!
Looking forward to getting back onto the main quest.
