amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. I wonder when it's coming in Canada... I've had a pre-order on Shovel Knight since November and the release date keeps getting pushed back. It's now listed as January 20th.

Wow, my store sold out (THIS MORNING). 30 people outside. When I went for stupid YARN YOSHI CRAP, I was the only person there!

Ugh, I thought Shovel Knight was Best Buy exclusive. I just called my GameStop and they've been sitting there all day, which is like 14 seconds from my Best Buy.. So I'm off to pick on up there.

Lucas, on the other hand, is being an ass. He got pulled out of my cart over on Amazon. NICE.

Picked me up that sweet Shovel Knight amiibo at target today. Nice. Also got several more of these things at Christmas, including the entire Animal Crossing set. Good times. Oh, and I have maybe half of the cards as well. Too many amiibo.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I've also delved in to Skylanders Superchargers for the Bowser and Donkey Kong amiibo. They're kinda cool. Seems GameStop has them bundled separately, though. Not a bad way to go.

So did you get one? Hope so!

Mine arrived yesterday from Best Buy. I have the next Animal Crossing set reserved there plus Lucas but i nabbed a second pre-order from Amazon, which I generally prefer. However with the fact that BB shipped Shovel Knight to me for release day, I'm rather pleased with that and will probably just cancel the Amazon then. Not sure.

Lucas, no. Shovel Knight, yes. I called the wrong store (...) and when I got to the store I thought I called, they called my mall store (which I hadn't been to since they hosed me on the Xenoblade Wii pre-order bonus) and got one there.

I forgot to mention that I was able to order Lucas off of WalMart.com.

Sooo... what do you guys think the amiibo market is like, now that so many previously rare units are easily available?

Is the mania still there, or do collectors no longer care, since there's so much supply?

I care about the Smash line but I almost regret buying the Animal Crossing series at launch. They're all so cheap now. I wasted a lot of money in that respect and definitely could have avoided international shipping costs had I just been patient for months and months.

Pretty pleased to see the stock levels as they are though.

I'm really curious to see where the baseline level of demand will eventually settle. It's such a fascinating phenomenon.

@Anand I'm personally glad that supply has caught up with demand, since it means if I want any figures then I could get them for the normal price, or maybe even less.

As far as collectors go, I think that will continue even as supply increases. I mean, people still bought up the extremely common figures like Mario, so I don't think it was the limited supply that was attracting collectors (just what attracted scalpers). Lots of people love to collect, lots of people love Nintendo stuff, and those people will collect the figures regardless of rarity. And then you still have people who buy just a few figures anyway, getting the characters they want, or the ones people want to use in games. Most of the characters Nintendo have released don't really have other merchandise out there, especially not some up to the good quality of these figures.

In short, yeah, the mania has died down, but I think the figures will remain popular for various reasons.

I'd like to. It takes a lot of effort to organize and cleanly display those in the thread. I was thinking about it earlier today though.

Beat the Bomb, an Aussie game site, has a lot of hard to find amiibo available and shipping is very reasonable. I got both Robin and Lucina for $26 including shipping. Nice to secure all of the FE ones I'm missing on one day.
