So, who all will be joining me in this latest (and apparently greatest) journey into the world of Pokémon? Will you be the very best? Like no one ever was?

Sorry to bump yet again but I wanted to update.

So, I'm loving the game. I'm finding it super easy right now (I'm at the third gym and my Pokemon are basically 10 levels above the first trainer there), but it's still very enjoyable. On the one hand I'd like to avoid using Exp. Share...but on the other hand....I don't want to have to battle for 4 hours just to beat a gym leader. I wish there was some sort of balance.

Anywho, I still think this game omits WAY too much info from the player. Is there even a Pokemon type chart anywhere in the game? Shouldn't that be a key item? Also, I know I'm supposed to be discovering new Pokemon and everything, but I really feel that I should be able to know when Charmander learns Flamethrower without having to look it up on Bulbapedia. Really, this game should have some sort of wiki built into the game. How am I supposed to evolve this Pokemon? Why does this move take priority over this move? Can I have a list of which Pokemon can learn which TM? What is Dark effective against again?

Maybe it's too much to ask, and I'm sure all of this stuff exists in Nintendo's Pokedex app (or maybe it doesn't?) but the nuances of this game are just woefully hidden from the player. I just feel like I'm doing something wrong half the time because I have to look up info that isn't in the game.

Or maybe it is, and I just can't find it?

Also, am I right in assuming that if you do the wrong Super Training for a Pokemon, and then fill up your bar....your only choice is to either live with it or reset all of its Super Training stats? ALSO, is this the only way Pokemon gain EVs now, or do they still earn them upon battling? I haven't been paying attention enough to the bar that fills up.

ALSO, what exactly does Pokemon Amie DO? Does it just make my Pokemon happier? And what exactly does that do? I know it makes some Pokemon evolve, but of course, the game doesn't really explain which ones do.

@PogueSquadron
The day Game Freak puts all the info you need to be good at Pokemon in the game is the day I will love them even more than forever.

And yes, you have to reset all of the points. You do still gain them from battling as well.

Pokemon Amie only has ingame effects, so isn't really worth that much time.

I'm thinking of swapping out my whole team at this point. Charizard and Greninja were a good 12-14 levels above the last gym leader.

@PogueSquadron
Exp All makes having multiple teams for each gym possible.
01/25/14, 01:25
I really didn't use the Exp All until the end. And I had to print out a type chart for frequent referencing. For years I've used some old player's guide's I've had, but they're pretty outdated by now.
01/25/14, 01:33
Yeah if I hadn't played before I'd be so confused.

I also feel like they just give you so much. Boom, Lucario. Boom, Lucky Egg. Boom, Lapras. Boom, Fly. It just seems all too easy sometimes (though it's really all just a streamlined version of what they had.
01/25/14, 04:09
@PogueSquadron

Yeah I didn't really use any of that stuff in your spoilers. I really tried hard to use pokemon I liked personally, not the ones that were the strongest or had the type advantage.
01/25/14, 05:34
I already had my team sorted out by the time most of those Pokemon were given.
01/25/14, 05:59
Replaced 4 spots on my list last night, though I still need a Fly HM slave. Didn't have the heart to get rid of Charizard or Greninja. Maybe I'll just give Charizard Fly and then use the move tutor to change it once the game is over.

So now I have

Charizard
Greninja
Kirilia
Tyrunt
Binacle (why not? he's probably awful but I don't know what he evolves into and I'm curious. I never go with the 'weird' pokemon so I thought i'd try it))
Pyroar

I know I have some redundancy but it feels so weird to get rid of Charizard. Still, Pyroar's not awful and will probably be better once she learns Flamethrower (in two levels). Still have some replacing to do. Also, Kirilia and Binacle are still in the 20s, but it's amazing how quickly they're leveling up.

I finally figured out that you can search for any Pokemon on GTS even if you haven't seen it yet.

Got myself a Cyndaquil, so I can start breeding up a Typhlosion after my Togekiss. Typhlosion's always been one of my favorite starters so I wanna do my best to actually make him work in a party!

EDIT: Oh never mind; after researching a bit, he's apparently awful at single battles. Guess I'll stick with my original plan of using Volcarona as my fire type D:

I got all three Kalos starters in a combination of Wonder Trade and trading with an acquaintance, but I think I heard you get one of the other Kalos starters anyway so that's kind of disappointing.

Ugh when are we getting pokemon bank? That needs to have happened yesterday.
01/27/14, 05:14
Sorry for the bump. I just got a Chikorita over a a Wonder Trade. How is that possible? Is it hacked? The guy was from the US so he wouldn't have access to Pokemon Bank. Was there a special event or something? I didn't think you could get gen 2 starters in X and Y.

If it's hacked then I may have to consider dumping Chikorita out in the cold. I don't play like dat.
01/31/14, 07:47
@PogueSquadron
No, he probably got it from someone in Japan and then bred it to make more.
01/31/14, 07:48
I guess I'd have to worry that any Pokemon I get online could potentially be hacked, so there isn't really much to worry about. Nothing I can really do anyway.
01/31/14, 18:25
@PogueSquadron
Yep. And hacked Pokemon are either really noticeable or distinguishable.
02/01/14, 02:04
So I'm kinda addicted to working on my pokedex right now. And part of that has been hatching eggs. Which I've always felt was annoying. Mostly because you have to walk around with one less pokemon for a very long time. And even accepting that there are so many little things you have to do to do it right.

So far I've wasted time breeding pokemon which I didn't know needed a specific item to hatch a baby pokemon. I've wasted time breeding pokemon that I could've just caught in the wild. And I was just looking up some info so I don't make those mistakes again and I find out you can halve the time it takes a pokemon to hatch. That would've been nice information to know about 10 eggs ago.

You pretty much need a guide or wiki open at all times when playing this game.
02/07/14, 18:57
I've played the series so often know that most of the info is kinda just ingrained in my head. You'll start to remember things eventually.
02/07/14, 23:52
I still only have two badges. I need to get back to this game.
02/08/14, 07:28
@Pokefreak911

Yeah. I've played the entire series outside of the Black/White ones. But I still can't keep track of all the type advantages. And this is my first time really trying to breed.
02/08/14, 15:44
Breeding for me is moreso for getting something like freeze-dry lapras then anything
