I wonder what kinds of announcements they have in store to estimate this much...!

@Mop it up E3 HYPE TRAIN STARTING NOW! Honestly though, it probably has less to do with announcements, and more to do with demand. This thing is apparently in pretty hot demand.

@ZeroYeah, my wife's boss was talking to me after work about the system, and he wanted to pick one up for his son. I said it's a great console, but good luck finding one right now, ha ha. I don't quite understand the Penny Arcade comic about it. Is that normal? I, for one, not only have seen no SYSTEMS to be had in the wild, but even the games and accessories seem to be totally sold out! I saw one Pro Controller ever, and I've been keeping a wide eye open every time I'm out. Zero cases to be found, I know that much. Even some of the ones I wanted to buy online were sold out. What's interesting to me is that if they produce 16 million in Year One, doesn't that mean there will be more Switch consoles in 365 days than Wii Us during its entire lifespan? That would make me very happy if true. I hope the Switch does well for Nintendo, I'm loving the console so far.

@Zero If that's all they're basing it on, then it seems like an uncharacteristically bold prediction from the historically conservative Nintendo. Assuming this is true. @J.K. Riki Depends on your area probably. Around here, there were Switch systems available on launch day for people who didn't pre-order or camp out. Best Buy stores had a lot.

This just worries me that they won't sell though and we'll see stacks and stacks of them in stores. So far it seems to me all the sales are from hardcore Nintendo fans who are also buying Zelda (something like 89% attach rate). There is zero evidence the Switch will have any appeal to anyone outside of the diehard Nintendo fan community. I'd like to see data for how many Switch buyers also have a Wii U and a 3DS, I bet it's nearly 100%.

I hope this newfound confidence convinces Nintendo to officially position the Switch as a substitute for the 3DS. I think they need switch over to the Switch as the home for the mainline Pokémon games. That will go a long way towards helping this new system gain adopters.

@deathly_hallows Well, if a large portion of 3DS owners buy a Switch that'd be huge. Not Wii huge, but huge coming off of a failure like the Wii U. Still, tough. I'm not super concerned though, there is obviously pretty high demand right now and if Zelda is driving that demand, it's fine. It's been getting the type of reviews that are making gamers I know who ignored the Wii U interested again.

@ZeroMaybe, but if I was Nintendo I'd wait and see how sales are after the Zelda hype dies down.

Sounds great. My biggest fear with any Nintendo system is the mainstream reaction. It is fairly difficult to predict, and it has such a huge effect on the ecosystem. I mean, in terms of big third-party publishers, the ecosystem couldn't really be worse right now. It can only get better, people!

@deathly_hallowsCan't speak for the world, but my friend who I stood in line with to get a launch Switch did not own a Wii U or 3DS. He was waiting for something like the Switch to come along rather than get either of those. Several other people I know were lukewarm about the Wii U (and hate handhelds, sorry Grant) but upon seeing Zelda and the Switch were extremely excited. They just can't find one. @Mop it upJust launch day, though, yeah? I mean, are they still in stores near you? I've seen none... And they seem to be going for well over $400 on eBay.

Yeah, anecdotally, more of my friends are talking about the Switch than ever talked about the Wii U. It's nowhere near Wii levels, but I'd say a slight improvement at least.

@J.K. Riki I dunno, I only checked on launch day out of curiosity. Though, a friend of mine did buy one from a GameStop a few days ago and didn't seem to have any trouble. The situation in the comic strip probably isn't common, but it seems possible.

@Mop it upCool, I'll have to check some local shops while I'm out tomorrow. Mostly out of curiosity. Online on my PC every major retailer has it listed as Sold Out at the moment, as it has been since Launch Day.

Would have been cool if they upped production on the NES Classic too, but oh well.

@GameDadGrantFor the life of me I don't even know why they bothered to "make" that thing. It's like if Disney announced a new Star Wars movie then after they spent 200 million on it only released it in 2 theaters for a limited run of 1 weekend, then vowed to never release the movie streaming or on blu ray. Why? Why even bother at all? So freaking weird.

@deathly_hallowsNoooo, it would be like if Disney announced a retro showing of Episode IV for a limited run after spending all of a few thousand bucks on marketing. Then after being rightfully confused at the hordes of people trying to crowd into those cinemas (given that Star Wars has been re-released piles of times on various forms of media over the last 30 years), then arranged as they were able to, to extend that run as best they could. ...Then of course continued with the usual plans for Blu-ray release.

@ShadowlinkAlso, in this metaphor, Disney is probably spooked about how many people were pirating the entire Star Wars saga at those showings.
