This Playstation 3 edition of Mass Effect 2 was released in 2011 in North America and PAL regions. Unlike the first game, Mass Effect 2 downplays its RPG elements in favor of feeling more like a standard cover-based third-person shooter, although conversations still take a prominent role in the story. This game remains the most widely critically acclaimed game in the series.
Since the first Mass Effect was originally unavailable for play on the PS3, this version included a download code for Mass Effect: Genesis, which would allow players to make some of the major choices that were available in the first game, and carry them onward to their playthrough of Mass Effect 2. Most of the major DLC for Mass Effect 2 was also included on-disc. This consisted of Kasumi's Memory, Overlord, and Lair of the Shadow Broker.
