She kind of reminds me of Shantae.

Hope you guys have fun with this one, but I'm sitting this one out. It stinks, because I've finally gotten my Wii Shop Channel balance to $0, so I really just don't want to buy anything that's not 500 or 1000 points at this stage in the game.

I guess they've confirmed that the balance will transfer over to WiiU, but I really just want to start buying games for their exact price moving forward.

@PogueSquadron

Don't you have a 360 or PS3? Just buy it there.

@Guillaume

Hmm, I might check it out. This wasn't a game I was all that interested in, and I just have so many more games to get through, so I might have to sit this out.

I'm also coming off of Shantae right now and I think I might want to get into something other than the action-platformer at the moment.

Well, I had to use Gamefaqs like 5 minutes into the game. Apparently I'm supposed to know that what completely looks like a part of the background is actually a door.

I already own this on the 360, but I was wanting to wait until I had played some of the other Wonder Boy games before jumping into this one. I guess this would be a good time to start up Wonder Boy in Monster Land, as well as pick up Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap on the Virtual Console I want to at least play those two before Monster World IV.

I officially started Wonder Boy in Monster Land last night; the arcade version that's in the 360 collection. I've used two credits so far, and have beaten I think three bosses? This is neat, though I think the arcade nature of this clashes a little with the rest of the design. It's certainly unique, but I think it sucks how when you take too much time to get through an area, the hourglass flips and you lose one of your hearts. I've heard the later games in the series drop the time mechanic, which sounds good to me.

No one seems to be talking about this game much, is anyone even playing it? I played an hour or so last night and...

I really like it! It's basically a pretty well made 2D action platformer with adventure/RPG elements. Feels very nice. I wasn't aware that there were many games made like this period.

I'll move onto Monster World IV once I've played some of the other Wonder Boy games first. That's why I was a little hesitant to go with this game, since I really want to experience the rest of the series (particularly The Dragon's Trap, which I've seen more than one person claim can hold up to Super Mario Bros. 3 as being one of the best 8-bit games) before jumping into the final one.

It saddens me that no one is playing/discussing this game. WHY???????????? I honestly think it's probably the best RGC game yet.

Played through the first locked door area and yeah... great game.

@Zero

I didn't vote for this one, so there's that.

Also, I'm with @X-pert74; I want to play some of the earlier games in the series first.

I am 100% Xenoblade at the moment, so there's that as well.

There's no real story or anything, you guys don't have to play them in order!

I'm at the second main area now, it's pretty clever.

2 worlds down, 2 (and whatever else they throw at me) to go!

I'm seriously loving this game. It almost feels Nintendo-esque. Like a 2D Zelda at times. Yeah I said it.

Am I literally the only person playing the game right now? Apparently so. YOU ALL SUCK. WHERE IS EVERYONE?
07/09/12, 03:15
I know there's no real story, but I still want to experience the series in the order that it was released in, more or less. It's still interesting to see how the games develop from a gameplay standpoint.

NOW YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL WHEN I BEAT THE RGC GAME ON THE NIGHT THE THREAD GOES UP.

I was on vacation. I'll download the game today and start playing it soon.

Played for an hour and a half, finished the first temple/boss/whatever. I like how versatile the little blue monster dude is as a platforming and (light) puzzle tool. The boss was a bit more straightforward than I'd hoped, though I'm not sure if there's a safe way to attack its second form, so I just wailed away at it recklessly. Other than that, I'm liking the difficulty balance so far. I've had to use several Medicine bottles (they activate upon death a la Zelda's fairies, too) and died against the boss.

This game is good. Not sure if it's $9 good, but I'm confident it will be worth it by the end.

Is there a point to growing Pepelegoo? He's almost as big as I am now, and I apparently can't move and carry him anymore...but maybe he falls slower now? I'm not sure.

I like the game a lot. It's like if Zelda 2 was actually good.

QUADRUPLE POST YEAHHHHHH

Finished the third temple-dungeon dealy. Good stuff.
07/12/12, 03:33
I think I should have got this instead of Wonder Boy Arcade. That game is brutally unforgiving, and I've reached a point in the game where I fear I'm either not skilled enough or not strong enough to proceed (probably a combination of the two).

YOU CAN CLIMB ROPES FASTER BY PRESSING UP REPEATEDLY

Yes, there is one section of the game where this is required, and yet the game never says that fast-climbing is possible or how to do it. Took me twenty minutes to give up and hit GameFAQs for the answer. This must have been like the Carnival Zone Barrel in Sonic 3 back in the day...

EDIT: Finished! 5 hours, 40 minutes according to my Wii message board. Good game, glad we settled on this. But, assuming it's the best in the Monster World series, I don't think I'll try the rest.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land (arcade) is quickly getting to be quite ridiculous in terms of difficulty. I'm at the "Red Knight" (he looks more pink to me though ), and I can't seem to get past him. I think I may just put this game down and either buy The Dragon's Trap, or start up Monster World IV.
