It was!! A really!! Good direct!! At least for me, a huge Mii series fan! Here are some highlights for anyone not so interested in watching the whole twenty minute thing :P If I need to make a separate post for this lmk, I'm new to forum etiquette in general :'D
We finally have gay Miis!! I figured this would be so after the backlash from Tomodachi releasing without gay marriage compatibility, but to see Nintendo so overtly use the term "nonbinary" made me really happy, haha. I finally don't have to waffle between choosing male or female for my Miis :]
Relationships happen naturally? I like that they're introducing events that kickstart Miis having crushes on one another. Feels more alive and spontaneous, without being totally out of left field. Also it's really cute!!
Total island customization! Custom road tiles and home exteriors too! Appealing to the ACNH crowd, I imagine, haha. We can make little neighborhoods :]
Quirks! This one I REALLY think we needed. The personality system of the last game was pretty fun but not super robust, so a lot of Miis ended up acting same-y. Having the ability to choose little things about the way your Miis walk or the kinds of things they generally enjoy is great when you're wanting to nail the personality of a Mii without randomization. I do hope there's a way for random quirk assignment, though, because weird, unexpected behaviors were a big part of the fun when making goofy characters :P
Pet PNGs? Caught me off guard with this one! I expected pets but not something this silly, but I'm definitely not complaining. They can be customized and presumably there are pre-made ones to choose from. The place where you can make custom pets also allows for custom clothes and previously mentioned homes exterior designs. I wonder how regulated this will be if they allow sharing at all, lol
Shared houses! This might be my favorite reveal of the entire Direct. I like that we can have houses but really missed how close everyone felt in the big apartment, as well as watching the Mii apartments grow as you add new islanders. This is a great middle ground! 8 Miis can live together in a house, and sometimes they'll ask to move in with friends. The exterior design upgrades as more move in, so the houses get bigger :] The little scenes with the housemates interacting are very fun and I'm really hyped to move all my buddies in with me, yippee!
