amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. Getting a Link Amiibo.

He's the Amiibo all other Amiibo's want to be. But they can't. Because they're not Link.

Losers.

Here's what I'm planning to purchase, though not necessarily immediately.

Round 1: Releasing 11/21/2014


Round 2: Releasing December 2014


Round 3: Releasing February 2015

Since I own (or will own) all three known games to work with amiibo, plus I'm planning to pick up at least three of the four games amiibo will soon work with, this honestly should be quite a fun addition to my games. I'm excited to have figures of these characters, most I can't find anywhere. amiibo can be spelled 'W.I.N.' as far as I can tell right now.

It's funny how the general consensus on amiibo has changed so much here. I like the links, but you forgot the first one I made, where everyone rated their excitement! Looks like most of us came around on them.

Really? Everyone came around? I'm surprised.

Still pretty much sticking to my guns of only getting the Kid Icarus ones.

Why is Luigi's pose so stupid looking?

I guarantee we will be seeing "special edition" alternate coloured amiibo. It'll be nuts.

I actually think the pose is awesome. It's based off one of his silly taunts/winning stances.

Truthfully, if he was in a "normal" pose, I wouldn't really be that interested in his amiibo.

It didn't use the name 'amiibo' so it was missed in my search! I've added it now though as it may be the first real thread about it.

They're all, I believe, just figurine versions of their Smash Bros. Profile pics. Kind of a shame, especially for someone like Luigi. I don't quite understand why Luigi is the way he is in a Smash.

A reminder that GCU members at Best Buy get 20% off these. I wouldn't mind having a Link, Mario, or Samus one. The Link one has the most value right now. I wonder how much value some of the tertiary characters will have. I'll basically just have to get them based on which toys I like the most.

If I cave in and get one, it'll probably be Samus as she's basically my favorite character. Plus the amiibo itself actually looks great! But depending on how that Spinner power up in Hyrule Warriors unlocks, I might have to get Link too. I kind of dread it as more games come out though because as TriforceBun pointed out several times already, it's more tempting to get amiibos that unlock a ton of content across multiple games instead of focusing on lesser ones that will benefit the player less.

I knew from the start I'd probably get them all even if I didn't want to, however, after seeing the finalized retail versions (compared to the flashy perfect E3 versions) I no longer want them all. I did order Yoshi, Pikachu, and Kirby, as their retail versions look pretty good and I wanted some to play around with at launch. The Villager and Peach, which I also wanted, look awful now. At least, based upon the videos and images I've seen online of them. Thus, given the cheapening of the retail amiibos, I will only be getting those that have a quality look to them. I'm hoping King Dedede, Mega Man, and Toon Link turn out okay. Perhaps upon seeing the first wave in person (providing they don't sell out), I may change my tune a bit. Just please don't botch Ness!

Yeah this is the case for me. I was trying to leave this thread be as I consider myself pretty against the Amiibo concept and this thread seems more directed at people who like the idea. With that said, I'll be doing just that now.

I appreciate the gesture. While constructive criticism is welcome in any discussion thread, this is aimed for folks who want to enjoy amiibo without needing to defend positions or sift through any over abundance of negativity. We're here to celebrate and discuss them!

I've always been into figurines. I've already purchased the Kirby amiibo and plan to purchase a few more as time goes on.

What I'm really curious about is how Nintendo is going about making the amiibo figurines. It may be too early to ask Nintendo as they may be making big changes since its their initial delivery. In my Google searches I didn't find anything that unveiled how amiibo's are created but I did come across an article and video that explained how Skylanders are created. I would assume a similar technique is being used for amiibo.

What I'd like to see is for Nintendo to maybe do this stuff for 3DS owners as well. Like, if you connect your 3DS to X game, you get a little bonus, as a thank you for owning so much Nintendo stuff. Club Nintendo is great but as a rewards program it sometimes comes off as lacking.

It'll be a little tricky to implement right now as the 3DS requires a special attachment to utilize, but come the 'new' 3DS, it'll be natively built in and I could see what you're saying happening a lot more.

What's the general gist of how Skylanders are created?

In the past it took them weeks and months to sculpt and approve different Skylanders. They now use 3D printers to get the sculpting done. It uses a soft supporting material and then a harder material for the actual figurine. They chip away the soft stuff and are left with the sculpture. Pretty cool process. I assume they use that figurine as the template to mass produce the final product using molds. What they don't go into is how the figures are painted. I don't have time right now but in my brief searches it looks like the painting details can really increase the overall price of the figurine. I wonder if a computerized system is painting them, a crew of people are hand painting them, or a bit of both?

Not interested myself, I just don't see the value in them. I guess I will just remain locked out of certain features in the games I purchase..

Link and Peach for now, Zelda and Luigi in a month, and Rosalina & Luma and Mega Man down the road.

Samus and Megaman for sure. Fox looks pretty good too.

Considering Link, but the extra plastic bits really turn me off some of these.
