Trying the new Mario Golf demo here in PAL territory today. I've never been all that big on golf outside of duels with my friend in the original NES Golf, but this seems like a game I could sink a ton of time into. I've played all nine holes total, set in three different courses, and it's been lots of fun. The Wiggler Park and Yoshi Lake courses were absolutely adorable, and it really makes golf all that much more interesting having floating, bouncy platforms in your way, and giant Goombas overlooking the action. Gonna try collecting some Star Coins in Peach Gardens now. Pink grass and catchy music. Can't go wrong with that.
EDIT: Quick summary for anyone interested.
The demo contains one quick tutorial section and three playable courses with three holes each: Seaside Course, Wiggler Park and Yoshi Lake.
Seaside Course is what it sounds like, a green and sunny seaside area lined with palm trees and the odd sand bunker. Wiggler Park is located in a woodland area where everything is huge, including the wiggler and goomba spectators. The main obstacles here are small, round patches of rough in the middle of the courses. Yoshi Lake has the whole fabric theme going for it, and is full of small, relatively shallow bodies of water. There are also square, floating platforms that can block your shot or be used as a way to get the ball farther without ending up in the drink.
In addition to this you can play the Star Coin Collector mode on Peach Gardens, and the Ring Master mode on a Mountain Course. Peach Gardens features one Star Coin to grab, and grass so pink it would make Kirby feel inadequate. The Mountain Course has five golden rings to shoot your ball through, and lots of bottomless chasms on your way to the hole.
In terms of playable characters you can go with Mario, Peach, Yoshi or Bowser. So far I've only tried Mario during the tutorial, and Yoshi for the rest of my time with the demo. Will go back to the demo later in case anyone is interested in learning any specifics. Pretty meaty demo, I think, but you only get to play it ten times before you need to invest in the full version.
EDIT: Lol, wrote "pink so grass" instead of "grass so pink". Hurr and indeed durr.
