Woohoo, I love the shout-outs! What a thrill! Very cool episode. Dave was an excellent guest, and do I hear correctly that he has a retro-game room? Well well, so do I! Sure, it's in a bit of transition currently, but I like where I'm headed with it. Too much stuff for too small a space is my problem, but it's a good problem to have.
Now, my one teensie weensie slight minuscule issue with this episode is the final discussion of the evening, regarding Mr. Miyamoto's current responsibilities at Nintendo. I more or less disagree completely with everything that was said here. About Miyamoto himself, the conversation seems to me to be super presumptuous in assuming we know exactly what he does in the first place. Sure, there's certainly place to criticize, but he is somebody that will forever get the benefit of the doubt from me. And for his tastes in helping creating games for himself, I want nothing else from the man. I hope his role at Nintendo remains integral as long as he continues to smile his magical smile of wonder and whimsy.
As for Nintendo generally, I also disagree with several things said. First off, Joe, your experience with GameStop and Zero Time Dilemma is in no way reflective of a problem with Nintendo. It's a problem with GameStop and perhaps Aksys, the publisher. The notion that it's Nintendo's responsibility to overstock other publisher's niche games at specialty retailers is crazy talk. Second, Nintendo IS a children's company. Or a family company, if you're being generous. The industry aged away from Nintendo, not the other way around. Their commitment to family entertainment is beyond admirable. Third, I think Nintendo should be trying to chase the Wii/DS market and not the Xbox/PS market. That 'gamer' market is as good as gone, as far as I can tell. To chase them would only ever work if Nintendo were to stop being Nintendo, and that price is too high in my book.
My thoughts on all this go much deeper, but get jumbled the more I type. These topics are brilliant discussions for the podcast, though, despite my reaction to them. I still love you guys tremendously and anxiously wait the next listen!
