It's been a long hiatus and somehow the return of the Negative World Euphonic podcast lands on Memorial Day! In this 'season recap' episode, Joe and Stephen take a look back at the first five episodes by picking a song each from all ten previous themes. The catch is that these songs didn't make it into the original shows and now is their time to shine!

A slew of Negative Worlders get their picks heard in what makes for a packed episode... packed with music!

What do you think of the songs picked for this episode? Were there others that should have gotten the new light? Let us know!

You can comment on the music, the show, etc. on Negative World, Facebook or, Twitter.

Enjoy the show!

This podcast is awesome. I liked the discussion, the humor, and of course, the music. Great job on this episode, guys.

A few comments:

Protoman has a very expressive theme. I love it when a song can speak volumes for a character.

I also played Chrono Trigger for the first time on the Nintendo DS. It didn't take long for the soundtrack to captivate me, and well as the game as a whole. Corridors of Time is breathtaking.

Phendrana Drifts is one of those songs that sweeps me up in it's atmosphere. One reason why Metroid Prime's Tallon IV is so wondrous is because of music like this.

I also like it when video game songs are given thoughtful names. Secret of Mana has some beautifully-titled music.

We're happy to be back! When the year turned and we pushed out two episodes (one of each type), there was a small break but then a focus on what can be done to ensure we're a bit more regular on the NWP front. We've wanted to do more of these Euphonic episodes but I refused to do any more 'normal' episodes until this idea had seen fruition. Luckily there was some time this weekend, and I did a lot of the prep-work ages ago so it was just a matter of recording it and editing it. I hope you enjoy this episode as well.

Thanks a bunch Octo. Protoman's expressive theme is, for me, one of the most expressive character themes there is. Despite it not making it into the original episode, it still stands as such a mark in gaming music history. It's a shame you can't find more covers and versions online,... I couldn't anyway. I wonder why Smooth McGroove hasn't done one yet.

I'm glad we agree on Corridors of Time and Phendrana Drifts. I'm craving a new Metroid Prime for Wii U so hard right now. It could be a completely different story of course but a Metroid game in HD with the atmosphere and music of the Prime series (particularly 1) with the gameplay that made the series so great.... OMG. Zelda who? Mario what?

Listened to this while at work on Tuesday evening. I really enjoyed the podcast, esp. all the soundtracks picked. Many are my favorites, which was really made the time fly. I'll probably listen to it again tomorrow evening as well!

Wonderful! While our talking-segments got longer as the show progressed, it was our goal to ensure there was more musical punch packed in there, which made it easy considering the format of this particular episode.

Great "B-Side" collection of songs. I hope you guys do a "palace/dungeon" themed show. I got some good suggestions for that one!

We have the next episode pretty much decided, but I like the sound of that. We will keep it upfront in our minds! Glad you enjoyed the episode!

Woot! One of my suggestions got picked! Hoo-rah!

And yeah, totally scary theme. Haunting.

EDIT: Oh snap, TWO of my picks were...uh, picked! Nice! Totally unexpected. Yeah, that theme song is rather catchy. Good guitar riffs and an upbeat tempo...great stuff. Worked really well as the final boss fight song. Cool!

Looking forward to hearing what's changing up for the next Euphonic...interest is piqued.

Haha, I knew you'd edit once you heard your second pick made it in.

Glad you're intrigued. A new episode will be done sometime after E3 but I might get the thread requesting music out before then.

Yeah, I was posting while listening to the podcast...didn't get to the second song until afterwards, ha ha.

And cool, yeah! I'm gonna keep an eye out for the "music requesting thread" - I'll definitely try and suggest some good stuff.
