3 Nintendo characters you'd like to see playable in the next Smash Brothers [roundtable]

NINTENDO CHARACTERS. As in, characters that are part of Nintendo owned IPs. If you want you can make some 3rd party picks too, but I'm curious to see what Nintendo characters you guys think still need to make the cut.

Here are mine...

3. Dark Samus (Metroid)

The Metroid series is way too awesome to only have one character in Smash Brothers games. And there is no way in hell I'd want to see any of the "good" side characters from Prime 3 or Other M come into the mix. Dark Samus, on the other hand, is a total badass. And I'm giving Nintendo a bit of a copout here, as they can make Dark Samus one of their "skin" characters while still adding a few different moves (in fact, in the Prime games Dark Samus has a LOT of different moves than normal Samus). Final smash could be some kind of uber phazon blast.

2. Andy (Advance Wars)

Advance Wars has to be the only franchise from Nintendo that has had 4 (count them, 4!) releases over the last two handhelds, all of them releasing in both the East and the West, and yet no real representation in Smash Brothers. Meanwhile Fire Emblem, Advance Wars' brother game, has two playable characters. Unfair. Andy could beat people with his wrench, and for a final smash, call in the cavalry and have tanks and planes bombarding everyone on screen!

1. Little Mac (Punch-Out!!)

Screw being an assist trophy, Little Mac needs to be a playable character!!! Considering that he is a boxer his moveset kind of makes up itself... a bunch of punching, and his smash attacks can be his power punches. His final smash? I dunno, maybe he could be pulled back into a behind the person view (like in his games) wireframe model filling up most of the screen and get left/right and high/low punches to use. With the new Punch-Out!! on Wii being such a success (in quality, if not sales) it's time to give Little Mac his shot at stardom!

Ok, and as long as I opened things up to 3rd parties, there is one, and only one, obvious choice...

A. 8-bit Mega Man (Mega Man)

There are so many reasons to choose 8-bit Mega Man. His attacks could be super varied, there are about 80 or so powers he has absorbed from boss robots over the years, not to mention his slide could be made into a kick. Final Smash could call in Proto Man and have him go nuts on everyone. But the main reason? The have an awesome 8-bit stage with 8-bit Mega Man music. That'd pretty much be the best Smash Brothers course ever.

Alright, there are mine. What are yours?

1. Paula (EarthBound)

2. Marina Liteyears (Mischief Makers)

3. Vivian (Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door)

Bonus - Third-party character:

Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil series)

or

Bill Rizer (Contra series)

Both would be awesome. Or maybe even Mega Man X (SNES era).

1.) Lyndis (Fire Emblem)

Like Little Mac above, "screw being an assist trophy." Lyndis was the main (kinda) character of the very first localized Fire Emblem game for Western gamers, which coincidentally, was one of the best games in the series. Plus, the Smash Brothers franchise could use some more female influence, don't you think? Her attacks could mimic Marth and Ike's moves, for the most part. Maybe there could be some variation with her to mix things up a bit, though. Faster (yet slightly weaker) main attacks, and a faster foot speed coupled with a lighter weight.

2.) Princess Daisy (Super Mario Land)

Why should Peach have all the fun? Daisy has been an alternate selectable character for a while in other games (Mario Golf, Mario Kart, etc) so why not Smash? Mix up her moveset too, with no floating, being able to throw Super Balls (the power-up from Super Mario Land, her debut game) and more aggressive smash attacks (to accentuate her more "firey" personality). Final Smash would be something like Peach's.

3.) Wart (Super Mario Bros. 2)

Step aside, Bowser. Wart has been out of the spot light for long enough. Time for the main bad guy of Mario's 2nd adventure to get some screen time again. Bubble attacks, throwing vegetables (even though he hates them) and the Final Smash being turning the entire stage into the "silhouette" version seen in Super Mario Bros. 2 after going through a door created by the Magic Potion. Enemies would take damage and Wart could recover health by grabbing a mushroom (if he made it over to it in time).

Who else?

Waluigi (Mario Tennis)

Waaaaa!

Mewtwo (Pokémon)

Because. Seriously.

More Metroid representation would be great though one thing about the Metroid series is that there really isn't that many characters that would fit playable form. Most characters are either too minor in the grand scheme of things to put in or are really too large to be a playable character. The one exception I guess would be Dark Samus, which you posted

Anyways for my choices:

3) King K. Rool

Time to get some more villains in the mix and therefore I suppose it's time to toss in DK's main nemesis. Plenty of games to draw a move pool from and gives the DK franchise some more representation. Of course we have the issue of the Kremlings not being in the newest DKC so it's possible that K. Rool just isn't going to be that well represented any longer.

2) Mike Jones

For our obscure old-school character entry we have Mike Jones. Probably one of the better choices to make a playable character in that department. Of course this one would be very unlikely at this point since StarTropics doesn't even get mention as a Trophy in the other Smash Bros. games... the upside is that at least the original came out on the VC.

1) Little Mac

With the grand revival of the Punch-Out!! series it's time that Little Mac rise to further stardom alongside the other Nintendo characters. He's definitely made to be a fighter. We even have his Final Smash ready thanks to Next Level with Giga Mac. Plus we can always have the pink jumpsuit as an alternate costume .

In addition, I move that they either get rid of one of the Star Fox characters, or give them their own bloody move set. And seriously, if Isaac doesn't make it in there, then there will be hell.

The only character I actively want in the next Smash Bros. is Travis Touchdown.

It'd be awesome if Commander Video could get in as an assist trophy.

Just thought of another one:

Ray Mk II from Custom Robo. Make 'im super-sized like they did for Pikachu and Captain Olimar. Attacks would be the different kind of weapons available in Custom Robo, and the Final Smash could feature fire power flooding the screen.

1. Mewtwo:

As much as I can see why they put Lucario in, he is no substitute for the master psychic Pokemon. Even though he was in Melee, he really ought to be brought back and his moveset expanded and tweaked to match. As far as a super move or something like that...sky's the limit with him.

2. Krystal:

I'd actually like to see her replace Wolf O'Donell (sp) and take his place on the roster. Why? Because for starters she wields a freakin' magical staff, and we have no real staff users, mostly just sword/gun users and your brawlers (no pun intended). Plus, the staff powers from SFA can certainly be added right in and compliment any CQC moves she'd be given.

As for the 3rd spot, it's so hard to fill, but I think for now I'm going to go with...

3. Simon Belmont

Now, I may not be the biggest Castlevania fan out there, but the NES is where the series found its roots. Plus, he wields a WHIP for crying out loud! That alone gives him major brownie points and a good enough reason to be included.

Honorable Mentions go out to:

1. Little Mac
2. Mega Man
3. King Wart
4. King K. Rool
5. Ryu Hayabusa
6. Arthur (G&G)
7. Soren (FE: PoR)
8. Chrono/Frog (can't decide)
9. Phoenix Wright (Yeah...SO WHAT? )
10. Pico (F-Zero)

Because we got robbed in Brawl. That is all.

I don't care what you all say, I want Ridley to be a playable character, not a boss. If bowser isn't 'too big' to be a playable character, then Ridley isn't. (Just like bowser, he shifts size from game to game.)

LITTLE MAC is a must

Mewtwo is also a must, but he's not new

Captain Rainbow might as well be thrown in there too

Third party is Mega Man, there is no other choice
10/10/10, 09:25
Ridley, Animal Crossing person, and Mega Man are begging to be included (if they ever make another Smash).
10/10/10, 10:45
Ridley, Megaman, Simon/Trevor Belmont, annnnnnnd that's it. I'd like to see Tails as well actually.

I'd like Mii's where you can assign basically any move from any character. It'd be impossible to balance but maybe if you choose nothing but overpowered moves you'd move extremely slow, or couldn't triple jump or something.

Instead of little mac, I want:

Just 3, eh? I'll cheat.

Nintendo: Little Mac, Ray Mk II, and your Mii.

Third-party: Simon Belmont, Mega Man, and Bionic Commando/Arthur/Contra Dude/Kunio.
10/10/10, 20:09
Tom Nook, Mewtwo should be put back in and made better than he was in Melee, and Ridley.

Third party: Black Mage from Final Fantasy, Ryu from Street Fighter, Master Chief/a Spartan from Halo.
10/10/10, 20:22
Mii is a good idea, it would be absolutely hilarious. Also, I would like to see Waluigi step up. Tom Nook is another good choice, I would rather him than an AC villager.

And what about Birdo?

Layton would be a good assist trophy, but not a fighter.

3rd party: Castlevania dude or Megaman.
