From what I have read on the GAF thread Sakurai just isn't capable of studio management and directing games, if true bringing him into EAD in directing capacity seems to be a good move as it will free his hands and allow him to focus on the games rather than the red tape.

What do you mean? Some of my all-time favorite games--Kirby's Adventure, Kirby Super Star, all 3 Smash Bros, Kirby Air Ride, Meteos, and Kid Icarus Uprising--were all Sakurai-directed. That said, EAD Tokyo doesn't seem to be the kind of company that really needs Sak's help, but a game with the design and gameplay of SMG combined with the polish and content of a Sakurai title makes me drool.

This news also makes me excited for the new Shiggy division.

The guy who provided this information has said a number of things such as

Managing a studio, producing and directing games was way beyond Masahiro Sakurai. Sakurai's wife helped him managed the studio as well, but it just wasn't enough. Specifically procuring and hiring talent became arduous for Sakurai. Basically he was never able to assemble an internal staff capable of developing a game on its own. For Smash Bros. Brawl and Kid Icarus, they only we able to hire about 20-50% of the necessary staff required for a Wii-3DS game. Nintendo had to subcontract several companies for each game to reach development. Again, they tried to hire staff for the Smash HD-3DS project, and they just gave up, liquidated the subsidiary, and hired Namco-Bandai to do the intial labor. Three strikes and you are out.

Iwata wanted Sakurai to join EAD Tokyo back for Brawl. But Sakurai thought he could run a studio without direct Nintendo management. He was wrong. With Project Sora closing, it seems all but evident that Sakurai should go back to Iwata's original plan to form the third main section of EAD Tokyo alongside Producer Shimizu and Producer Koizumi.

This stuff sounds awesome. Gives me hope for Wii U's lineup beyond 2013. We should see lots of unique content for the system.

Didn't Sakurai recently quit Nintendo to form his own studio. Why would he come back?!

Sakurai is most definitely a positive change especially if Nintendo wants to appeal to the typical "hardcore" gamer again. His games are always super polished - awesome graphics and displays, orchestrated soundtracks, you name it. Just as an example, I'm 90% sure the Kirby anniversary collection had much more content than the Mario one because Sakurai was involved.

I definitely don't know whos whos and where....I don't pay that much attention even though you guys have always talked about it over the years. I guess I'm just going to look out for the new development studio
edit: as far as Nintendo directors/developers I know Sakurai, Miyamoto, and Aonuma lol

I just want more new IPs please, whatever it takes. Do it.

I hope this doesn't mean more games like Kid Icarus uprising with convoluted control schemes that are difficult to use. I'm trying to imagine a mario game with no jump button but instead you have to "smash" dash onto a jump pad and it's making me feel a little ill.

@deathly_hallows

Well, it sounds like he would be leading his own EAD Tokyo development team... the Mario franchise doesn't need him. I like the idea.

What if the New IPs are poopies?

@Mr_Mustache There have to be poopies before the goldies. Right now, there are too few new properties from Nintendo and it concerns me. Denpamen is a good start!
