Yes you heard that right Netflix is now available in the UK for the monthly fee of £5.99. The application is now available to download from the Wii Shop Channel and is also up for download on PS3 and Xbox 360. No word yet on an application being released for 3DS.

Selection is a little thin at the moment but Netflix has promised more content will be added on a regular basis, they currently have deals with the BBC, Lionsgate, Miramax and MGM.

@carlosrox

We Canadians only got it months after it had rolled out in the US, ourselves.

But that's a far cry from the YEARS it's taken for the UK though! Totally shocked they're only getting it now.

Netflix on Wii is at least 2 years old, no?

Developing the infrastructure, getting deals with different content providers, etc. takes a lot of time. It's not surprising in the least. Netflix doesn't have infinite resources.

edit - Netflix launched its streaming service in 2008 in the US. We got it in September 2010.

Its all to do with how copyright is handled here in the UK I think, They are finally getting deals with providers for content. Lovefilm pretty much had a monopoly on streaming movies here and it is awful, you pay for the streaming service but anything they deem premium content you have to pay £3.50 (roughly $4.50) to stream it as an extra charge, plus there are limits on the amount you can stream unless you pay the highest charge. I hope Netflix can iron out some good deals with distributers to get some good content up because if they do it will be hard to say no.

The problem is I think I would need a US addressed credit card to sign up to the US service. So I don't think having a US IP would automatically open the US content.

No way, man! I only signed up to the Canadian one (With my Canadian card), and with the program I am now able to get US content.

Hey, it's free to try for a week! You don't even need to give them any CC info.

I've probably said this before, but I think there's enough good stuff on the Canadian version of Netflix that I don't need to bother with Guillaume's solution. Sure, I'm missing out on a ton of shows, but I have like 30 movies on my queue to watch, along with two seasons of Mad Men, one season of Breaking Bad, all of Arrested Development, and all of Twin Peaks. That stuff alone will take me a year to get through!

What I love most about Netflix isn't the selection, but the recommendations. It's great at guessing what I'd like, and as a result I've watched so many awesome movies that I either didn't know existed or wouldn't have thought of watching. I'm bad at deciding what to watch, so I let Netflix choose for me!

@canonj
I definitely agree with you regarding the recommendations. I've watched some great documentaries and smaller movies due to Netflix.

However,

I have to say even though I have heard good things about Netflix the streaming is superb, I did not imagine it would be this good.

I didn't give any information to get the DNS details for Unblock-US so how are they going to stop me from using it when my 7 days are up? do they block my IP address 7 days after connection maybe because I don't have a static IP. This confuses me slightly.
