Aliens: Infestation is Metroid Infested by Xenomorphs

Oh baby this sounds pretty sweet. I'm a huge fan of Metroid, and I really do love the Alien film series, and knowing that Metroid was inspired by the series, I've always felt that it could use a bit more of that in the games.

Well it seems that the opposite is going to happen, as someone on the development team of this game must be aware of Metroid's inspiration as it is an Aliens game that will be taking inspiration from Metroid!

The game is a sidescrolling shooter with plenty of large open maps for exploration. Plenty of areas will need special tools found later in the game to further traverse through them, being blocked off until you can find them, to encourage backtracking, some of which just simply being elevators that need a keycard, or using your newly found flamethrower to burn through a gooey blockage.

Now if this description is accurate of true Metroidvania design, then ohhh

Not only that but the game seems to portray the Xenomorphs accurately as whenever they kill a marine (which there are 4 initially, with a unique personality for each, and up to 19 can be found), they will drag them back to be impregnated with a chestburster, giving you only a few minutes to rescue them. When one marine falls, another takes his/her place, and you will only be able to have 4 at a time in your squad, and if that marine dies, they die for good.

Aliens won't just be simple cannon fodder though as they will skitter across ceilings, come out from under the floors, and will chase you to your doom if you try to run away. Pulse rifles, grenades and other unique weapons and tools can be unlocked to take out these ugly motherf***ers. There will be Power Loader combat, sections of firing from a speeding vehicle, and fights with Alien Queens in addition to the standard combat and exploration.

It's all sounding very good, and will hopefully scratch the itch of anyone looking for a good Metroidvania sidescroller, or anyone looking to get one last breath from their DS system this holiday. Just don't be too loud as unlike in space, your neighbours will hear you scream.

Aliens Infestation is being developed for the Nintendo DS by WayForward Technologies, and is being released by Sega and Gearbox Software on September 30th in Europe, and October 11th in North America.

I thought it was going to be September for NA. Crap. Oh, well, I've got two other titles coming out this month right off the top of my head, so another month won't kill me. Pre-paid, bitches!

Yup, got this one on pre-order. I'm actually looking forward to this one; it's going to be the first ALIENS video games I've ever played.

MUST BUY. Definitely in my top 5 most anticipated games of the year, up there with Uncharted, Zelda, and Skyrim.

Yeah, I couldn't be too much more excited for this one. It's right in my wheelhouse.

AWESOME. I really liked how long it took to bring down the xenomorphs in gameplay footage so far. Their movement was truly creepy too. *DROOLING*

Sounds good in theory, a Contra/Metroid hybrid by WayForward? But then, they often release some crappy license games. So we'll see.

I think it's by the Contra team. That's good enough for me.

@Zero

Their licensed games usually get good scores.

Can you jump?

@Dillo64

Yes, though not very high. You can climb up stuff, do combat rolls, punch, etc.

@Brick

So, it would be closer to reality, since you can't jump very high in combat boots and full combat gear. Sounds better by the second (not that there's anything wrong with Metroid)!

@Guillaume Thor: God of Thunder, SpongeBob SquigglePants, Where the Wild Things Are, Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck, American Dragon: Jake Long - Rise of the Huntsclan!, Justice League Heroes: The Flash and Galactic Tazball speak otherwise. Batman: The Brave and the Bold is probably their best scoring licensed game and even that is only mid 7s.

I think this one looks like it could be a nice exception, but I'm still a bit skeptical right now.

@Zero

You must have never played Duck Amuck. Its Seaman Lite, with Daffy Duck as your Seaman. It was definitely amusing. Speaking of, why has there not been a Seaman announcement for the 3DS yet?

@Deerock69

Because it's SEGA. They don't make games that would make sense for the platforms they are developing on. For example, why in the name of all that is Holy, has there not been a Jet Set Radio game on Wii?!?

That trailer looks dope. Great to see original set pieces in the screenshots (huge alien fused with it's chair).

I don't know too much about this game but its Metroid inspiration really has me curious. I didn't think there would be any other new DS games coming out that I'd want but I guess I was wrong.

I think I might have to get this for the gameplay and because I love Aliens...well, specifically the xenomorphs themselves. I'd rather play as them, but...hey...I can't pass up an opportunity to get some big ol' guns and blow them up either. :D

@VofEscaflowne

Wayforward could build themselves an entire cottage industry if they just stuck to DS development.
