How to download your Ambassador Games with video instructions (GAMES UP FOR NA!)
News reported by

Joystiq has posted a "How to download Ambassador Games" PSA on their website. The instructions are as follows:

"In order to get your free games, you'll have to open up the eShop (cool so far), then ... go into the "Settings/Other" menu there, scroll to "Account Activity," and then click to "redownload" each game, even though you're actually downloading them for the first time."

You can't do it just yet but, when the time comes, now you're ready.

While not related to this I found out you can re-download the e3 videos from you download history.

Yeesh... that we have to use these backdoor methods only highlights how behind Nintendo is at designing an online store/system. I am happy that they are more openly using third party assistance in developing the online stuff for WiiU.

@FINlos

True, but I remember having to jump through similar hoops to get my free games through the "Welcome Back" program Sony did after the PSN fiasco.

Some people on the IGN 3DS lobby are reporting that they can already download the ambassador titles, so you guys might want to try doing this. I would but I'm at work :(

Not available yet here in Canada, will try again later on today.

Edit: they just went up! Downloading now.

Edit2: Error Code once, but rebooted and it`s working now.

Can't wait to get my 3DS back so I can download these, and possibly my E3 trailers again!

Yeah, downloaded all 10! I was hoping that certificate video would include... actual video but it's just scrolling text explaining how to be kept up to date with information regarding releases of the other games.

@GameDadGrant

What? You didn't have to do through your download history for the welcome back program. You picked "Welcome back 1" then a game, then Welcome back 2" and a game. Makes a lot more sense than this!

In other news, does anyone know if each of the games takes up an individual "slot" on the main menu? I'm going to have to start deleting stuff soon unless it expands when it reaches capacity...

Well that was a pain in the ass.

Yeah it takes up one spot but the menu slots also expand and by quite a bit it seems. I certainly don't remember having that many spots It's huge now haha.

@VofEscaflowne

Good to know. I was going to be really disappointed if I had to empty my fridge a bit already.

This. It was super easy with the welcome back games on PS3. And I'm not complaining. I think Nintendo has deservedly taken a beating for the past few months, and I appreciate the fact that they know it and are trying to fix it. I was just making an observation. But I hope this experience really shows them the necessity for a more robust and flexible online infrastructure, especially for promotional programs like this.

Some people had to, if somehow something got messed up the first time they tried to download the game.

Sorry to uglify the thread topic, but I feel more people should know that the games are up now! Get to downloading!

That's how it was *supposed* to work, but a lot of people reported having issues with the downloads. I know I did. Finding the download voucher wasn't easy, and then it wouldn't always allow you to actually download right away. I had to re-download the voucher, and then jump through some other hoops to get to the games...

... I dunno. Blah blah blah. Neither Sony nor Nintendo's free download programs are ideal, but hey. I got my free games on both my Playstation machines, and I'm getting my free downloads now on my 3DS, so... yeah. Overall, no harm, no foul!

@Guillaume

But the number of "icons" available on the home screen DOES expand, yes? It's not limited to the default number?

I won't be able to play much until later this afternoon...so much work to do today, ugh.

But the first game I play will be DK Jr. I'm in the mood for an arcade experience right now.

I'll wait until I've finished Ocarina 3D (I'm at the Shadow Temple) before I get going on the original Zelda which I've never beaten. Game notes and web browser are going to come in SO handy for that one!

@TriforceBun
Fixed for northern comfort.
