Etrian Odyssey V is out today?! Well damn, I guess I'd better check when it hits the EU so that I can snag my copy!

Gonna download The Flame In The Flood right now! Not so fond of the whole survival concept that relies on dehydration/hunger meters (although Don't Starve was really good, IMO), but it seems to be atmospheric and interesting!

Yono and the Celestial Elephants seems really cute, but I don't know much about it. Someone here, please get it and post some impressions!

Another strong indie week. Nintendo's first-party output has been pretty good so far, but they're wise to fill out the release calendar with all these acclaimed indie games. They could probably do a better job of getting the word out on a lot of these instead of burying them in a press release, though.

I look forward to picking up where I left off in the Etrian Odyssey V demo! I was really getting into it.

Played some Flame In The Flood. It's alright. The menu system desperately needs an overhaul to make it less cumbersome - punishing, almost - to pick stuff up, and the RNG for resource spawns seems kind of unbalanced, even for a rogue-ish survival game.

Still, the hunger/thirst meters seem to drop at an acceptable rate, the injuries and ailments you can suffer from makes things interesting, the crafting system feels logical, and there's probably a decent amount of strategy to the game once you manage to pass the initial threshold keeping you from the most vital tools and stuff. Also, the dog companion is friggin' adorable.

If they were to patch the game so that you can transfer and sort resources between your bags more easily (I'd bet that I spent at least a third of my entire playtime in the menu trying to get my shit together), balance the spawns a tiny bit and possibly make the early locations a bit less similar to one another this could go from alright to great in a hurry.

Thanks for the heads up on that game. I'm very close to biting on that game, on the strength of the trailer alone.

@Brandon
If you're into survival type games and/or rogue-lites you'll probably like this. I'm gonna go back to playing it right now to see how the game feels now that I know more what to expect and what to do. Maybe I won't mind the negatives as much.

Downloading an update for the game right now. Not sure what it does, but I'm guess it's a stability fix.

EDIT: The Switch is evidently a pretty good home for indie titles.

Indeed, it’s fair to say it’s had its best ever day on any console since we’ve been publishing it, beating any other format we have launched on. It’s done just under half of our first full month forecast in a day.

Yeah, I'm so happy about the strength of indie sales on Switch, even while the weekly releases are ramping up. It's such a great platform for them, and Western indie support is probably more important to me than Western third-party support.

As far as Indies go, the Switch is the new Vita.

I feel the same way, pretty much. During the Wii years we got some really nifty low or medium budget games with quirky ideas from mainstream publishers, but today it's the indies that provide that kind of content, so it's nice to see them doing well on the Switch.

@GameDadGrant
Yeah, sure seems like it. Would be cool if it could become the new Wii or 3DS on top of that.
