Box Boy looks really great... but getting swamped with games

I bought the VC games last night. I might get Box Boy, but I'm not sure about it yet.

BOXBOY! I think I'll go for that. I already paid the $2 upgrade for Super Mario 64 yesterday.

Looking forward to Donkey Kong 64 hitting the VC in two weeks. And I've seen enough people evangelize Yoshi's Touch 'n Go around here that I may have to pick that up next week as well.

Guess I should have bought more discounted eShop points when I had the chance!

@nate38
I've never played DK 64. I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.

@DeputyVanHalen Same. As much as I love Super Mario 64, I really haven't played any other big time N64 platformers like Banjo and DK64.

I upgraded Super Mario 64, and I want Yoshi's Island DS...just swamped with games right now. So it's on my wish-list.

I'll get Box Boy for sure, just a question of when. Glad to have SM64 on my gamepad, maybe I will finally get all 120 stars?

Yeah I wanna hear about Mario 64. Is it in HD?

And when they do DK64, does anyone think they'll play with the framerate?

Popping in with the "does Mario 64 work with the Game Pad's controls?" question.

@PogueSquadron @ploot
It's not in HD, or widescreen (it's 4:3 with black bars on the sides), but it looks fine to me. Making or loading a restore point takes longer than other games, but jumping into the Menu or Home Menu is actually faster, I think.

As for the controls, they're pretty customizable overall and definitely passable, but one thing I noticed is you can't assign individual C-directions to the control stick. For example, I have the C-buttons mapped to the right stick, i.e. C-Up is up on the right stick, C-Right is right on the right stick, and so forth. What I would LIKE to do is switch C-Right and C-Left to their opposite sides, so that the camera would work more like the default for modern cameras, but that isn't an option. It's also a tad awkward using the stick directions for what used to be buttons, but it works okay.

@nate38
Yeah, being mainly a RPG fan then, I bailed on the N64 as soon as FF7 started the RPG flood on PS1, so Mario 64 is about the only one of the big games for it I've played.

@sirmastersephiroth
Honestly it looked sort of off to me. Controls too.

Suspend/resume and save states on N64 is awesome though.

From what I've seen it looks like it might be running at 720p upscaled to 1080p, but I could be wrong. Not sure if I feel like plunking down $2 just to find out because I don't have any interest in playing it right now.

Played a bit of Mario 64 and I'm disappointed it doesn't fill the entire gamepad screen. I don't care about minor distortion, the black bars all around annoy me. But other than that, it plays and looks great.

How much does it cost to upgrade N64 games? Or can you not?

@Jargon

2 bucks I think?

I'm enjoying Box Boy so far.

@Jargon $2

I have Boxboy (which is $5 if anyone was wondering) and it is good.

I picked up the 2 VC titles yesterday so today was all about Box Boy that cost 5 bones, and so far if has been well worth it. The game has charm and fun so far in spades. Mario 64 for the VC rocks as well. Besides the inability to stretch the image to 16:9, the game is far superior to the N64 version processed through my DVDO VP50. I have high hopes for the this round of N64 VC titles. Here's to hoping for a Mario Golf release soon.
