The official Japanese site says ESRB rating pending, so it looks like this one is coming west, possibly simultaneously with the Japanese launch this summer. So yay!
Ha, on other forums, people are wishing for a Vita version. Is no one happy with cool-looking 3DS exclusives anymore?
Or is it just a case of Vita and Wii U owners realizing there is a lack of software to play on those systems, and are hoping to siphon some gaming goodness from 3DS?
Or could it be that the game would be more enjoyable to many people on a bigger screen? I'd say the inferiority complex is more realistically attributed to the people who jealously guard exclusives on their system of choice so that they can "win" list wars or other such tribal nonsense.
@GameDadGrant I see a lot of handheld backlash these days, maybe they truly are going out of style. Seems like most gamers (or maybe just the most vocal) want games on PC or consoles now and resent the fact the 3DS is so popular, anytime there is a new 3DS game announced the comments will be "wish this was on Steam, wish this was on Wii U, wish this was on Xbox, etc."
I haven't really seen any comments about Vita concerning this game, but I think most Vita gamers have accepted the fact that there isn't going to be much new development specifically for that system, it's more been relegated to a support role, a way to play console ports and indie games on the go (which isn't so bad).
It wasn't this way back in the GBA and DS days, maybe handhelds truly are dying.
@Jargon It's both, gamers don't want handheld/portable gaming, they want to see a big image on a TV or computer monitor, and they resent the fact that the 3DS is popular in Japan and gets many if the best Japanese games as exclusives. We've had this very conversation on this board, a lot of NW members think all games should go to Wii U and that devs/pubs should drop 3DS support or relegate it to a secondary system that only plays lesser versions of select Wii U games.
Haha I think you're twisting my words some. We disagree but I don't think my plan would relegate 3DS to second class citizen and it's certainly not spurred by resentment. I'm a proud 3DS owner and would be even if all its games were playable on Wii U!
There are definitely some resentful types out there but I don't think they're representative.
Haha I don't have such a commute but when I was traveling in Europe it was all DS all the time and it was a bummer that games like World of Goo and Lost Winds which I had on Wii and feel like DS could have handled (or definitely Mega Man 9 and 10 at least) weren't available to me. I just want to play all my games in whichever way I want, depending on the circumstances. Maybe NNIDs and shared eShop credit is a sign that at least that will start happening for NES games at some point. Fingers crossed.
Back to Guacamelee, it would be tough to see on a 3DS, I imagine but probably not impossible. I guess it's not worth the effort to port though given that. Too bad.
@Jargon They'd have to change a lot, during some of the sequences when you are in huge environments and the camera pans way out it would be hard to follow the action. Even on Vita it was hard, and that's a pretty sharp screen. A lot of Vita games suffer from this problem, the designers obviously work on a big computer monitor and don't think about scale as much. This is why I extra-appreciate games like Dark Moon which are obviously tailored to the handheld, Luigi takes up like half the screen, making him expressive and hilarious and easy to control.
THIS is what the 3DS (and, to a lesser extent, the DS) has needed. RPGs are fine and dandy, but, as a 2D action junkie, I've kind of been starving since the GBA days. Love Inti Creates. Day one.

But the 3DS wouldn't be so popular if "most gamers" wanted nothing to do with it. It's probably just some gamers not wanting to deal with handhelds. Which is fair enough, although I can't really grasp that viewpoint myself.
@GameDadGrant I think there is a lot more to choose from on the Wii U than you give it credit for though. I already have like 10 games on it and none of them are last gen ports or anything.
