2K Games brings the swashbuckling classic to Nintendo systems for the second time with Sid Meier's Pirates!
While the game has seen many iterations on PC (and ages ago on the
NES with Ultra), 20 years later a new generation of gamers has the ability - and duty - to don the colors of their nation of choice, and take to the high seas. Working for England, Spain, France, the Dutch (or simply yourself..shh!), players have a variety of ways to play. Set in 1600s Caribbean, the game is completely open ended with a loose storyline; you have the option to raid other ships, outfit your own ships with powerful upgrades, attack ports, trade with the locals, win the hearts (among other things..) of beautiful women, find hidden treasure/cities, and ultimately get your family back. They were simpler times; when nobody blinked twice if you stabbed a guy and pushed him off the side of a ship.
Players are customizable to reflect your appearance, and you can built up your wardrobe throughout the game to match your mood as well. Working your way up the ranks for each individual country based on your actions, do you have what it takes to someday hang up your cutlass and command from the sidelines? Only the most successful adventurers can do so; but to get there you have to take on a slew of real-life, historial pirates including Henry Morgan, Blackbeard, and Jack Rackham.
