Data East brings the popular film franchise to the NES as a side-scrolling run 'n gun / beat 'em up hybrid based on the arcade game of the same name. The gameplay is classic NES side-scrolling paired with generic monochrome enemies leading to slightly less generic bosses, including the super-specific ED-209, an intimidating thorn in RoboCop's side throughout the films.

You can choose to punch or shoot enemies in the side-scrolling stages, but it switches to a first-person view for the shooting range stage, using a reticule to hit moving targets.

This is the first game in the NES trilogy.
