(I know this is a thread for the original game, but I accidentally wrote this all out before realizing, so bear with me)

Just making a quick thread here to talk about…::holds breath::Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV ::gasps for air::

I know there are big problems out in the world and this is like, whatever, but…I feel like this is kind of a bad precedent?

To recap, when you buy this upgrade for $20, you’re now greeted with a splash screen to select either the base Super Mario Party Jamboree game, OR Jamboree TV- the new Nintendo Switch exclusive container that houses some new mini games and modes.

But here’s the kicker- if you select Super Mario Party Jamboree at this splash screen, you don’t really play a “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” of the game- you just play the base game as it has always existed on the Switch. No graphical upgrades, no resolution upgrade, just the same exact thing. So calling it a “NS2 Edition” in this instance is kind of misleading, given that the other Nintendo Switch 2 Edtions offer upgrades to the base game.

If you click on Jamboree TV, it takes you to a new container where you can play 4 modes. One of these is “Mario Party Mode”, so if you do just want to play regular Mario Party Jamboree at 1440p, you can apparently do that. However, you can’t really change the rules like you can in the base game, and you can’t use Pro Rules. And obviously, the side modes like Koopathlon and others must also be accessed in the base 1080p version. The other notable mode here is going to be Jamboree TV, where you use the new exclusive mini games to shout and use the mouse in 20 new mini games using the Switch 2’s new features.

The question is, is this kind of false advertising to call it “Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition,” if the actual Super Mario Party Jamboree game hasn’t been altered whatsoever? I’ve been vocal about how great the Koopathlon is in the Discord, so I have to say for me personally it’s disappointing that this mode doesn’t get any love here.

Again, I say this all knowing this isn’t a big deal at all whatsoever. It’s Mario Party after all, so it’s nothing to cry about per se. But it’s also kind of lame that they label it this way? Is anyone else a little disappointed that this NS2 Edition doesn’t upgrade the whole game? Does it set a bad precedent?

I think fortunately that Kirby and the Forgotten Land is not suffering the same fate- I may be wrong but I believe they were explicit that the base game would still be receiving the resolution upgrade. But now it’s kind of lame because whenever I see an NS2 Edition, I’m going to have to read the fine print to see what’s included. As a fan I’d SMPJ, if they upgraded the whole thing, I’d probably drop $20 just because I love the base game so much. Anyway. Not the worst thing in the world here but I’ll cross my fingers that they might upgrade the rest of the game one day. As of right now, it kind of has traces of the side of Nintendo that feels a little icky.
