I'm curious what the new difficulty modes will add! Sounds like one limitation in Ultra-Spicy is that you can only have 60 Pikmin out at a time... but what else?

Finished the demo tonight! I love the gyro controls, and I love the increased difficulty. Having stakes suddenly makes the game feel so much more dynamic! Not sure if I'll play through the full game on Hard or Ultra-Spicy, though.

Anyone else try this out yet?

I downloaded the demo, but haven't started it yet.

I do find it a bit difficult to believe any new control scheme will be as satisfying and work as well as using the Wii remote's pointer and having the GamePad propped up on a TV tray table was and did. Sure, I looked like a dork, but it's honestly one of my top gaming experiences of last gen.

I'm in line to get the Switch version from the library, eventually. I do want to see the new content.

And ideally, I'd like to 'support' this game by buying it, but a) I already have and b) I can't find it in me to pay $80 CDN plus taxes for any game these days, let alone one I've already played.

@Guillaume

Hmm, I wonder if Nintendo can figure out when someone who's played the Wii U version gets the Switch version too? I'd think that they have access to purchase data tied to Nintendo accounts, but even for physical copies, I bet the mysterious "play data" they get sent is used for these kinds of calculations. Hopefully if they see that someone who played the Wii U version skips out on the Switch version, they don't hold it against the Switch version!

I briefly tried the gyro controls with the Pro Controller but couldn't get a handle on it. I suppose separate Joycon would've worked better.

I thought the touch screen controls on the Gamepad on Wii U worked perfectly. I actually wasn't a fan of using two screens for this game. It worked well for some reasons but I don't have a table set up in front of our couch. Going back and forth between the two screens was just too cumbersome and overwhelming for me.

I'd like to support this as well but yeah...$60 USD for these ports is just too hard to swallow. The only Wii U game I've double dipped on was Captain Toad, and I was able to make it work through some deal at some point. If some of these ports were cheaper I probably would've jumped on DKC: Tropical Freeze by now.

I wonder if we'll get any kind of reduced price "Player's Choice" games at any point. That was always a great way of grabbing games I missed out on.

@PogueSquadron

Did you try the pointer gyro? The non-pointer gyro felt wrong to me, yeah.

This is the main reason why I'd be okay to just play the Wii U version if I ever get a hankerin' to play this game again, those controls are great for Pikmin. The new features don't really seem like anything I'd care about either, and it looks like the graphics are basically the same.

I got this last night and played a ton of it. I never played any Pikmin game with the Wii Remote, so compared to the standard analog stick controls, the gyro pointer is revolutionary, and I love it. Stayed up way too late trying to Platinum the second mission, only to constantly fail by less than ten seconds. My dreams last night were spent strategizing, and when I woke up, I tried it again and got it on my first try with four seconds to spare.

...I also played through all of Olimar's missions, which were cake by comparison. A nice palate-cleanser.

But I read someone say that Hard mode is just the Wii U version's default difficulty, and Normal is easier than that? HMMM... well, I'm sticking with Hard mode for my first playthough, Ultra-Spicy does sound harder, but I dunno if having limited Pikmin would be as much fun! Part of what feels so great about these games is commanding an army of A HUNDRED, sixty just doesn't feel the same.
