So in a potentially controversial statement... this is my first Chibi Robo game... I know it's not a traditional game in the series but I liked the amiibo and it looked decent enough gameplay-wise.
What attracts you to Chibi Robo? How are you enjoying this game? How does it even compare to previous outings at all?
So far so good but I'm still having trouble understanding what all I'm collecting and working on. Seems like there's a lot going on here. But dang that amiibo looks good...
I've only played the GameCube title which was different but enjoyable. Zip Lash definitely sends Chibo Robo into new territory though not really anything new for Nintendo fans. Platformers are plenty and this one won't break new ground. Still, I like what it's offering so far. It's simple in good ways and I enjoy collecting everything there is to collect. I do like the amiibo implementation as well. Leveling up the amiibo sort of has its charm and scanning in other amiibo to unlock in-game figures is pretty neat, as is getting the descriptions for the character poses.
I won't rush through this one but I do want to go back for the collectibles!

Chibi Robo was a breath of fresh air in a stagnant, too-samey world of games. The GCN title was unlike almost anything else in existence, and was by far the most mature game I've ever played. It dealt with real-world issues using a very friendly/cute facade. Any violence in the game was so far in the background from the actual gameplay that it almost didn't even need to be there.
Here we have the total opposite. A game designed to be mainstream, breaking no new ground, with violence at the core. Granted we're not talking "gun people down in pools of blood" violence, but Chibi used to help people by CLEANING THEIR FLOORS for goodness sake. Not by whipping random bad guys in an effort to collect more coins. Thanks, mainstream. Thanks for taking away anything fringe that some people really enjoyed.
Zip Lash is so far of a departure that it does nothing but make me truly sad to see what the character has become. Such potential, and now all that is gone. What a shame.
RIP Chibi Robo. I will always love you for that first, and best, outing. You truly did something magical.
I don't mind the roulette much. You have plenty of coins to play with and even if you're not sure of your shot, you can just buy a couple maybe to practically guarantee what number you want once you have the timing down. Odd yes but eh, I really don't mind it as much as some. It's not like you can do much with the coins anyway!
In terms of presentation, I love that Chibi-Robo apparently has a dance for every occasion. He's the star of the game in more ways than one, and I think it's immediately clear why they'd want to plug (har har) this character into different genres à la Kirby. He's the cutest.
The controls feel really good. I'm definitely digging the way you stay in the air as long as you're whipping, it makes for some fun boss fights. I'm also enjoying the puzzles the game throws at you. They're all rather simple, but are still fun if simply because Chibi-Robo's abilities are fun to use.
Yeah, the spinning wheel thing is weird and unnecessary, especially since you need to clear every stage in a world to unlock its boss, and then you can go back and pick past levels to replay. Like, why? But it's not preventing me from enjoying it immensely.
Wound up getting the game today. We got a GameStop gift-card as payment for filming a friend's wedding and Amy really wanted the Amiibo =P So, not sure when I'll get to playing it, but, very excited!! Game looks great! This is one of those games that the Treehouse Live at E3 really sold me on.
I would agree with you so far Gui. I am excited to keep moving through this title. Between this, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Academy, and Yoshi's Woolly World, the cute factor with Nintendo is strong right now.
I wouldn't say I've soured on the game, but I have to admit that the gameplay didn't evolve in the way I was hoping. The things you do at the beginning are very much the same things you do at the end, except in the last few stages, you're usually under pressure to do them quickly, or it's insta-death. The higher stakes don't really make the action more fun, just more frustrating.
I thought about scouring past levels for secrets, but ultimately that's not much fun either. The secrets don't get more clever as you go, instead you'll have more instances where if you don't catch a Chibi-tot in time, for instance, he'll run into lava. It's a pain in the ass.
I've got more on my mind, but the bottom line is: there's too little to the game, and the developper knew it, and instead of finding clever ways to expand it, went and found a myriad of ways to pad the experience. It's pretty disappointing.
The game was fun enough to play through once, for 2D platforming junkies like me. But it's not a great game.
Since I love the original Chibi-Robo (best 3D platformer on the GameCube SUCK IT MAAARIO SUNSHIIIIIINNNNEEEEE) I had to pick this one up when I found it for a tenner. Only played three levels so far, but I'm enjoying it! It's sad to see the story go from the GCN game's relatively heavy and interesting plot to a basic alien invasion thing with tons of candy advertising spliced in, but it's great to see Chibi-Robo and Telly again, and even though the gameplay is quite unremarkable I'm having a good time with it.
More than anything I think this will get me to buy imports of Park Patrol and Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Rich Oosouji, especially the latter since that's supposed to be the true successor to the original game, with the same type of gameplay and everything. I still haven't learned to read Japanese, but that didn't stop me from buying Giftpia the other day. When I want my Skip game fix I'm not gonna let the language barrier stand in my way.
Btw, I loooooove the first stage's song! It's fantastic.
