This May, one game will define MULTIPLAYER FUN on Wii U. That game, is Mario Kart8!
Mario Kart has been a Nintendo staple since it's SNES debut over two decades ago. Only two Nintendo products neglected to have an entry and each entry that has existed is a charming title in someone's eyes. Entries like Double Dash on Gamecube helped push the boundaries of creativity and uniqueness, while more recent titles have continued to refine a core experience. Mario Kart 8 seeks to continue that trend with it's jaw-dropping HD visuals, Anti-gravity racing, and incredibly well-designed tracks.
With all the characters known, the deep customization possibilities to each individual racer, the classic 32-total track count... there's so much to discuss and share and debate. Reviews are just coming in now and while I'll post a few below but they're not all gushing with pride. User Stephen recently made a thread aiming to have a more comprehensive list of reviews available. So... Are you impressed with the Mario Kart TV feature, excited for the Super Horn, or bummed at how battle mode has changed? Share your thoughts on the game below, now, upon release, and well after! Below you'll find a list of Nintendo Network IDs as compiled by our own Mop It Up! Be sure your friends are added to your console!
Details for the online seem pretty scarce so far, and that's sort of the thing I'm buying this game for (1P is pretty by the numbers, which is kinda lame, but expected). I hear that the VR works as sort of a combination of MKW's and MK7's.
What I didn't like about MK7 was that you ONLY gained VR points. While this alleviated the frustration of losing a ton of points when having a bad race (like in MKW), it made points kind of...er, pointless. Like, if you get points for every game raced, they really don't mean anything at all--just that you played the game a ton. In MKW, a high VR score meant you had to play well, and maintain it, buddy!
The good news is that VR goes to 9999 again, with you losing some if you do poorly (like MKW), but the number of VR points lost is much lower than in MKW, so losses aren't quite so devastating. This is a good change, IMO, when in a game like Mario Kart, you're inevitably going to have bad luck, so it stinks whenever you get a HUGE penalty equal to 5 or 6 wins at that point.
So I'm looking forward to the online...however! I hear that you can no longer pick your course online...? Like, you can choose random, or one of three randomly-generated courses per match. Sounds...limiting. I get that they probably did this because of track spammers in the past, but you can work around that by simply locking out the most recent track (or two), rather than limiting the choices so much.
Anyway, if anyone's got other details on how the online works (or if I've got any of this wrong), I'd love to hear it.
Sorry about that Mop It Up! I wish there was a way to share a thread with someone. I think certain game discussion threads should act as a main hub for the game on this site anyway and this would be a perfect example.
If you'd like, I can do that in the OP or if you'd like to still keep a tally on that post here on the first page I can be sure to edit it in as often as I can. Just let me know what you'd like to do. I'll be sure you get the credit for it as well. You know, I could link in the OP to your post with the same reference link. This would prevent the OP from getting too long but also allowing for you to do what you so kindly wanted to.
You guys have to watch this slo mo video! It really awesome & beautiful. Seriously, watch it & several times as you'll probably miss a some cool stuff going on. Don't worry about spoilers as far as tracks or whatever. Make sure to change video settings to 720p, as youtube always defaults videos to 360p. Enjoy!!!
Yes sir! I love all the cool particle effects as well. If you look closely, esp. watching in HD, when the video cuts to Luigi, flying near the end in the DK stage, you can see the wind causing ruffles in the clothlike material of the balloons that are used for hovering. Sooo cool! That just shows the amount of incredible detail and how meticulous Nintendo is when developing their games. Something that tiny in detail really did not need to be added since most people playing the game would never notice small stuff like that, esp. while in the heat of playing.
Yeah, in MK7 you gain maybe 20 points for finishing 1st, and lose a point or two when last. In MKWii, the amount of points gained or lost depended not only on your place, but also the VR of all the other people playing. It made a whole lot more sense, since you gained a lot of points if you beat really good players, and likewise, you'd lose a ton of points if you lost to poor players.
@DrFinkelstein Well, you guys could make me a moderator and then I could edit the opening post. Hee hee hee.
AH HA HA HA HA HAWR!
Ahem. But seriously, it's fine. Which of your ideas do you think would be the easiest to manage and have people find? I'm not sure which one would be, so we can go with which one you think would be.
But yeah, I wanna get the ball rolling so I can be ready to go when the game gets here. Who's going to be getting this game, who wants their NNID in this topic's list, and who wants to add me? I have some of you from playing MH3U, but that ain't all of you.
Take your first post in this thread and make that your tracking list. I'll link/copy directly to that so it's always visible from the first page of the thread and try to keep it updated as you make changes. That would be best IMO.
