Good Day to all you Negative Worlders! Thank you for your patience for these long-awaited results! I had a bit of a personal matter crop up which really has life in a new direction at the moment, and so this unfortunately was delayed for a bit. But alas, here we have the results of this year’s Predict-a-ton! It was nice of Nintendo to give us a heads up on a presentation this year and I felt that this Nintendo Direct was all around a nice fat A. It didn’t have a new Mario or Splatoon but it had a new mainline Zelda, a major shock to start things off, and of course the epic return of Metroid Prime. After some picks being part of the predict-a-ton for past years, I personally went a bit away from some predictions I had previously made and boy I wish I hadn’t done that. Nonetheless, thank you all for participating! Let’s take a look at the results.

Bonus Prediction: (OPTIONAL)These franchises haven't seen a
new game entry in a while.
WIN or LOSE 50 points by picking JUST one to be announced.
Remember, this is optional!Choose from:
1080 Snowboarding, Chibi-Robo!, Custom Robo, Donkey Kong, Duck Hunt, Earthbound, Eternal Darkness, Excite, F-Zero, Golden Sun, Ice Climbers, Kid Icarus, Mario Baseball, Mega Man (Core Series), Nintendogs, Punch-Out!!, Pushmo, Rhythm Heaven, Ring Fit, Star Fox, Star Tropics, Tomodachi Life, Wario Land, Wave Race, Wii Fit.
No games fit the bill this time! While yes, there was a Donkey Kong game and it’s receiving maybe a minor graphical overhaul, it’s not what would be considered to be a ‘new’ game entry. Plus, nobody picked Donkey Kong anyway as their bonus choice.

FIRST PLACE: GameDadGrant: 14 pts
SECOND PLACE: Mop it up: 12 pts
THIRD PLACE: DrFinkelstein: 2 pts4th Place: Zero and TheBigG753: -12 pts (joint 4th place winners!)
6th Place: TriforceBun: -30 pts
7th Place: legendofalex: -46 pts
8th Place: Secret_Tunnel: -54 pts
9th Place: PogueSquadron: -66 pts
10th Place: Weeman_com: -102 pts
11th Place: ShadowLink: -104 ptsGameDadGrant takes the gold this year with 14 points! Mop it up’s strategy of just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks worked well enough to nab a second not far behind. I managed to scrape by just enough points to be in the green this year before a joint fourth-place sets the tone for the remainder of the group. Congratulations to everyone regardless of rank and thanks again for your time playing the game! Next year’s should be particularly interesting as we presume the next Nintendo console will be either released or damn near close to it.
----------The ‘Pre-Order Bonus’ Award:This award is for the option in each category which was picked the most and also came true.
Winners:(A) Two Or More Past Nintendo Game Remakes
(B) Bravely Default and/or Dragon Quest Make An Appearance AND Metroid Prime 4 Details Shared
(C) NDCube Or Camelot Shows Off Their Next Project
(D) New Special Edition Nintendo Switch
People were quite confident that not only would this year be about remakes, but that we’d be seeing Metroid, Dragon Quest, Mario Party, and a themed Switch. Great thoughts!----------The ‘Captain Blubber’ Award:This award is for the option in each category which was picked the most but it didn’t come true, thus causing the most upset.
Winner:(A) Presentation Features An All New Farming Sim, JRPG, And Puzzle Game
(B) Twilight Princess and/or Wind Waker Get Switch Ports
(C) Metroid Prime 4 Releasing This Year
(D) New Details On A Nintendo-Related Movie Project
The presentation not featuring a puzzle game really is what solidified that Category A loss. We had some farming and some JRPG goodness inside but no core puzzle games to be seen. Voters also thought that this would be the time for some Zelda Switch Ports and Prime 4 to be releasing this year. Unfortunately there was no word on the Zelda ports and Prime 4 is coming in 2025… but at least it’s coming! Lastly, plenty of folks thought news on one of the Nintendo films being worked on would help pad the Direct but it seems the presentation didn’t need such padding.----------The ‘7th Generation Booster’ Award:This award is for the category which was picked the least, and thus signifies what people thought was the craziest option to go with.
Winners:Hollow Knight: Silk Song Gets Shadow-Dropped
I find it sad and hilarious at the same time that this year nobody was expecting a Hollow Knight: Silk Song shadow drop. It had been speculated in the past and maybe this would have been chosen if it wasn’t specifically noted to be a shadow-drop, but the faith in this game ever seeing the light of day is just so small with people right now. What the heck is going on with this title? A future documentary about its development process is hopefully something that’ll come to light because the mystery behind this is so strong.----------The ‘Fence Swinger’ Award:This award is for the contestant who had the widest possible point spread potential, and it paid off.
Winner: DrFinkelstein
So this year’s Fence Swinger award happens to go to myself, but to be fair that’s in part because the positive-scoring pool of people was pretty small. My point spread potential was 38 points, while Mop it up had 36 and GameDadGrant had 34. With this logic, maybe if I had just been a little more reserved, I could have taken the win! Alas… twas not the case.----------The ‘Brawl Tripper’ Award:This award is for the contestant who had the widest possible point spread, but it did not work out.
Winner: ShadowLink (+/- 132 possible points)
There’s something to be said about going big. Sometimes it can pay off big and other times it doesn’t. It may not have for ShadowLink but obtaining an accolade is still an achievement.----------The ‘Link’s Crossbow Training’ Award:This award is for the contestant who had the best accuracy in their voting choices. They had the most correct answers regardless of point values won or lost.
Winner: Mop it Up AND TriforceBun (with 75% accuracy)
It may be surprising to see that both the 2nd place contestant and the 6th place contestant had the same high scoring percentage. The reason for the discrepancy lies in the fact that TriforceBun put faith in a new Mega Man in this Nintendo Direct. When it came to bonus points, Mop it up made no such gamble.----------The ‘Switzerland’ Award:This award is for the contestants who managed to net a neutral score of 0 points.
Winner: Nobody!
Nobody won this award this year, but to be honest it’s pretty damn hard to achieve. The chances are quite slim.----------The ‘Metroid Dread’ Award:This award is for the franchise that people most voted for in the optional bonus but it didn’t show up; thus a missing in action title.
Winner: Rhythm Heaven
Last year Rhythm Heaven won this accolade as it was presumed to be coming. This year we had the same presumption and yet it did not show. Is Nintendo working on one now, as the demand continues to grow, or will it be something we see on a future console? Perhaps the franchise is truly done for? I sure hope not.----------That’s it for 2024! Thanks again for your patience on this one! I hope life will be better for me, and all of us, come next June! I also hope Nintendo continues to give us ample awareness of such a showcase and that they continue the time-honored tradition of a June Direct. It feels good to get all this game news right as the summer begins.
Be safe. Be happy. Spread love. Game on!
