I'm inclined to say that it would be absolutely CRAZY for Nintendo release a new handheld and console in the same year, but hey, it's possible. They did it back with the GBA and Gamecube.
I'm still not getting myself hyped though, I personally don't expect to see it until 2012.
I'm not sure if it would be a good insane, or a bad insane. But it might be a nice "you made it through student teaching, now you get to buy yourself a Wii 2!" Christmas present for me if so.
@MightyOwned Well... possibly. But then, I would never have thought they would jump from $150 to $250 for a handheld. $350-$400 isn't out of the question for the home console. At the very least it would be $300 but that's still only $50 more than their handheld.
Although if true it really makes me wonder what Nintendo's plans are for TEH CASUALZ. These prices aren't exactly something that casuals can jump into.

Seriously though how much are we talking for the controllers? They have 6" touch screens so I can't see it being priced under $80? If so at $350 with 3 more controllers we're talking close to $600. Better start saving my pennies now but big N better have a solid launch line up.
With a solid launch of 'stream' I think I'd opt for 2011 but I'd rather see a 2012 so I can focus on the good 3DS games that come out in 2011.
The only reason that a 2011 or early 2012 release date makes any sense is that there is a complete lack of any information coming out about future Wii games from Nintendo. If we were to assume a November 2012 release date for Wii 2, then we're talking about 19 or so months, with only two confirmed U.S. game releases for the Wii in that time period (Skyward Sword and Wii Play Plus). That's a long time to basically give up on the console market.
If Nintendo isn't releasing the Wii 2 in 2011 or early 2012, they'll need to put out support for the Wii. But we're not hearing rumors about more Wii games coming. We're hearing rumors about a new console coming. If the Wii 2's not coming this year, where are the new games?
Count on Nintendo to do the unexpected, I guess. Whatever that might be.
If the Wii2 really is noticeably more powerful than the 360 and ps3 and comes out at the end of this year, will MS and Sony follow through on their public statements that they don't plan on releasing another console until 2014 or later. After forging their identities on being the systems for the gearheads, can they really go 3 or more years where they are not technologically on top?

Sony is the KING of BS, so you can bet your next paycheck that if the Wii 2 is technologically superior (which I doubt, but IF) then they will spend mucho dinero on PR explaining how the Wii 2 isn't even as good as the PS3. Count on it.
EDIT: Oh and more importantly, the vast majority of fanboys will believe them.

The then-and-now rumored revamped R700 GPU would be more powerful than the rumored Trinity/Fusion GPU. Still cost effective, since it is two generations older than current GPUs and two generations ahead of those in the PS3 and 360.
I'm inclined to say that the 'mock-up' below is fake...
However, 2 things make me believe that this might be legit:
1. There's the mention of AI Live framework, which is motion-controlled middleware (currently used by Wii and Move), but the only people who really know about this are those who are well-informed, or have access to the SDK's. It would be an oddly random (yet accurate) bullet-point to put on a fake mock-up.
2. IGN is now reporting that the console looks like a modern/fancy SNES. What does this look like to you?
