Chicago - Apartment Warming II: THE REVENGE (aka Smash Wii U party)

Day / time: Saturday, July 11th, 6 pm - ???
Location / my phone #: Don't want to post publicly PM me for it.
Confirmed almost definitely coming: Around 8-10 people, at various points. And this is actual confirmed as in people I know not just random Facebook "maybes". More may show up.

Non-alcoholic drinks and snacks will be provided. For anyone who needs food there is a Portillo's like 2 blocks away that is open until midnight, I believe? And some other food options. I have no issues with people bring alcohol too, these things just rarely seem to end up involving much drinking. (Probably because most people are driving and obviously we don't want drinking and driving.)

Here is what we may / will probably be playing:

Wii U
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (8 players!!!)
Mario Kart 8?
Sportsball (because uh... it supports 5 players and may as well try it since I bought it?)

PC / Steam
Duck Game
Towerfall Ascension
Samurai Gunn (hopefully can figure out how to make 4 controllers work this time)
Maybe that Gang Beasts game if we can actually figure out how to get it to work this time.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS
Mario Kart 7

A bunch more too.

What I need other people to bring:
2 360 controllers (I only have 2)
2 more Wii U classic controllers if people don't want to get stuck with Wiimotes for 8 player Smash
1 More Wiimote... I guess? If we play Wii games?
Your own 3DS + copies of any multiplayer games you want to try
Any games you want to try that I didn't list above (might as well ask me first if I already have it though...)

Um, anyone with some rechargeable AA batteries it might be nice to have a few extras just in case.

Sorry, I did see this earlier, just didn't reply right away. Of course I'd love to hang out again, but I'm honestly not sure if I have any availability on those weekends. I'll try and figure out when I'm free sooner than later.

While you're all together, you should find out who has AT&T or Comcast cable and can share their login with me so I can watch the Bulls on my phone.

I did NOT see this earlier.

My nephews are actually coming in on Smash Launch Day, so I guess I'll HAVE to hang out with them over the period from the 21st to the 28th. I'd be down for anything after that, though.

(And you guys are free to come over and Smash it up with us if you want!)

So early December might be the best bet? I think I may have something on the 6th... and I may (though I'm not sure yet) be going to Canada around the 20th. Which would leave either Sunday the 7th or Saturday the 13th / Sunday the 14th?
Posted: 11/17/14, 04:58:06
I'm busy the 6th as well, so yeah, the following weekend may be best.

So it sounds like the Smash Gamecube controller adapter is pretty much sold out everywhere and may not be easy to find anytime soon. Did anyone get their hands on one? If not we may not be playing 8 player anytime soon. I'll keep my eyes open but I'm not paying $100 on eBay...
Posted: 11/24/14, 02:38:16
I have one.

Unless I sell it.
Posted: 11/24/14, 07:31:44
You would be sort of dumb not to right now. But... if you don't, 8 player is back on baby!

It's looking like the 13th or 14th of December will be the best bet? I vote for the 13th just because it is easier for me to relax at parties when I don't have work the next morning.

BTW probably not this time but maybe next time... Shirley is moving into a place with a freaking 16-chair huge screen + projector "theater" that anyone in the building can use. Might be interesting to game out in there sometime...

Obviously the mid December thing didn't work out. Shirley actually moved twice in December (long story) so I was pretty busy.

What do the holidays look like for everyone? Too stressful to try to have a party during, or a good time because time off and such? For me it is an awesome time since I have two weeks off of teaching. I still work my programming job but that is only two days a week right now, so I have tons of free time. Also Shirley left for Canada for a few weeks so I'm boreddddddddddddd.

I wouldn't mind trying to do something next weekend or the weekend after. But is this a good time for people? I honestly don't get much holiday stress so I don't know how it affects others. For me it is the most relaxing time due to time off from work and such.

No one is going out of town for the holidays are they?

My cousins and I played Wii Party U the other night. It's surprisingly... not terrible. Although I wish it were just a solid Mario Party.
Posted: 12/23/14, 22:13:25

Why is that a surprise? I've posted lots of love about the game on here and others have too. Make sure you unlock Spot the Sneak, it's an improvement even over the original! No other mode reaches the heights of Swap Meet from Wii Party 1 though, unfortunately.

Maybe not a surprise, but I guess the bigger surprise is it kept both of my cousins interested too. One of them is still sort of a gamer, the other pretty much refuses to play games nowadays for the most part.

Wii Party U is pretty good, man. Some of the two-player games are fun, too. Like the Robot one and that baseball one.

Anyway, I'm down for some Holiday fun. We could do it this weekend, even.
Posted: 12/24/14, 03:27:24
I'd be down for this weekend although it is kind of last minute so might be tough to get a full 8. Uh... assuming that we have an adapter anyway... did you decide to sell or keep?

Brandon?! Where are youuuuuuuu.
Posted: 12/24/14, 03:30:12
I have an adapter. (Still NIB!)

Sorry guys, I have been super busy this past week. I've seen this thread updated, just haven't responded yet. This weekend is certainly no good for me. The wife and I actually do have some time off, but we desperately need to decompress from the holidays. We were insanely busy, at work and otherwise. The next couple of weekends might be doable, though. I really do look forward to hanging out!
Posted: 12/26/14, 01:12:39

Some neat new PC multi games out now too. Like uh... Crawl. Probably some others.
Posted: 04/09/15, 06:01:06
Definitely! I'm not around the last weekend of April (22-26), but should be available most other weekends.
