The last game in the series to be released on the SNES. This was later ported to the Playstation, Saturn, and PC with a remixed soundtrack and sound effects, along with anime cutscenes added in between stages. This version with the original soundtrack is currently only available on the SNES. Like the previous two games in the series, this involves X fighting through 8 Mavericks, then going through a set of fortress stages towards the final boss. This game introduced the ability to play as Zero, although his use in the game was limited, as he only had one life, and could only be played for approximately a third of any given stage (not including the intro stage). This rounds out the trilogy nicely, and is considered to be one of the toughest games in the Mega Man X series.
