FCI's shoot 'em up originally released on the MSX computer.
In Zanac, players operate the AFX-6502 Zanac, the most advanced starfighter ever built. In twelve vertically scrolling stages, one must avoid and destroy swarms of enemies in an attempt to shut down the "System," a Pandora's Box-esque device harnessed by an alien race.
Zanac plays like most SHMUPs, but stands out in a few categories. Unlike some games, there is constant primary and secondary weapons if you so choose, and an ability to upgrade both of those options by means of floating powerups. The secondary weapons bring great disaster, ranging from simple force field barriers to time-based (use it while you got it) "bulldozer" type weapons, plowing over anything in its path. Zanac is also noted for the severe difficulty, and for the adaptive AI, automatically choosing how difficult the game will be based soley on how the player is doing. If you're struggling, the skies might be friendly that day; if you're packed to the gills, you can expect an intense firefight.
And you'll need those unlimited continues.
