The fourth installment in the Dragon Quest / Dragon Warrior franchise by Enix, and the last appearance on the NES.
Bringing back many of the features that fans of the series have come to love, even more additions delightfully pepper the landscape. Most notably the gameplay is seemingly lengthened, offering more bang for the buck. Unlike the previous three games where you play as one (or more) character the entire game, Dragon Warrior IV offers you five different storylines, freestanding in their own right (each main character with their own class, allies, enemies, and plot), which intersect after the completion of the fourth chapter. The fifth chapter is played by the Hero of the story, now with his familiar companions.
Introduced in this game is the wagon, a vehicle allowing you to select which of your characters will actively fight in battle, and which will sit on the sidelines. It should be noted the jars/drawers that we're accustomed to automatically searching in every other RPG first made their appearance in the Dragon Warrior series here. And also making its first appearance is a sweet Casino (notable for stopping all progress I had on a rental as a young kid. Stuck in the casino for the final two days of a five day rental, an obsession was born..). Here you can bet on slot machines and poker, and even make wagers on Monster Battles if the mood should strike. Success here will grant you some of the greatest items imaginable.
