Animal Crossing: New Leaf Review (Nintendo 3DS) (9.7)  by

Animal Crossing... I still remember getting up early before heading to my high school classes just to see what Tom Nook was selling that day. This game series has always held such a dear place in my heart. I think it has to do with the fact that heading to the land of Plaisant, Tranquil, or other towns of mine always being a great escape for me. Making Bells, filling my catalog, and fishing in the ocean were always points of peace for me. While I've been very public about my discontent with AC: City Folk, I have a new-found hope once more for New Leaf. From all the information that has been dished out due to the game's release already in Japan, and Nintendo pushing more information through Nintendo Directs, I am confident this game will be a fresh take on a classic and comforting idea.

The game released in North America on June 9th, 2013 and released in other territories shortly after.

Please use this thread for all discussion on the game. If you would like to make trades or visit towns, please use the specific Animal Crossing New Leaf Trading Thread for further assistance. It makes more sense to keep this focused on the gameplay and game discussion while leaving bartering out of it. There are no Friend Codes this time around for Animal Crossing, which is a blessing! Many of us have already befriended ourselves via the 3DS Friend Codes Thread thread. That thread will be where we continue to befriend each other and trade 3DS IDs for the sake of visiting each other's towns.

Many many years ago I discovered a wonderful Animal Crossing website which has a great catalog feature set up. Now, the new game will mean it'll take time for the site to get a full correct catalog up and running but I expect it to work beautifully once more to allow anyone to track their catalog there. You can find this website at the Animal Crossing Community page. They also have forums there which are very active right now in anticipation of this game. Granted, the general age of the members of that site fall a bit lower than here, but I've found over all the years I've been there that the discussion is still mostly pleasant and easy.

Lastly, I want you all to enjoy the music from this new game or any of the games, whenever you want. The following site will allow you to hear the "Xam" or "Xpm" music that would naturally occur in your life right now as if you were in the game. You can select from any of the Animal Crossing games and the music will continually loop until the hour changes. It's pretty cool. You can find that page here. It's by default at the City Folk music.

So again, everyone enjoy this game! Enjoy this discussion! If you're interested in being negative about the title, just find your way to a different thread for that because this thread is about the experience and meant to bring the community together during the launch of one of the most community driven games Nintendo offers.

Say hello to Kapp'n, cause we're about to make it into town on June 9th.

(One more quick note; Keep an eye out for the game's review, which I will write sometime in the end of June probably.)

I lucked into some free persimmons from a guy online. Once my trees sprout I can share with you guys! Might have to be one per guy at first though, since I'd like to plant a few more trees.

Went into town and visited the T&T Mart. Got a Red Pikmin hat and a Goal Post (I'm assuming that's a flagpole). Isabelle also gave me some Ladder Shades. Fun stuff! I also donated a Flowery Painting to my museum (so I'm 2-0 in buying stuff from Redd) and a fossil.

I'll play a bit more tonight. I haven't checked out my newly renovated house or finished paying for the Dream Suite.

@TriforceBun

Oooo nice! Let me know when they're ready. I do need Persimmons.

I just got bananas, but I only planted them yesterday so it'll be however many days until I get them ready. My town has been in a sad state of affairs, neglected, beaten down, but I got the axe last night and finally started clearing up the forests in my town! Then the damn thing broke!

Also, fortune teller told me I needed long pants, which I already had on, so I don't know what's going to happen next with that...

I would love one buddy!! Then I can help populate too!

The fortune teller told me to wear a T-shirt, and next thing I noticed, the trees were dropping 200 bells instead of 100.

Caught my first shark, finally!

So... sharks are hard to catch because as soon as they nibble on your bait you only have a split second to reel them in before they escape, right? I'm so nervous when I'm trying to catch one, and most of them have escaped from me (except for this one).

I have a million bells in the bank... i dont care about updating my house, but it does have the big second floor, no basement. I am more concerned in public work projects, though i still do not have more than one bridge. My bridge placement is perfectly fine for me. I was contemplating adding another one, but today the town hall is closed because of the summer solstice. Maybe tomorrow I will do a bridge? I will see...

@roykoopa64

Yeah, I sometimes just listen and engage that whole arm when i hear it. Watching distracts and fakes me out.

@VofEscaflowne

I've had duplicates already. It happens but you can get them all eventually I believe.

@roykoopa64

I always close my eyes and put my ear up to one of the speakers to listen for the "BLOOP". I don't get them 100% of the time since it's tricky, but that works better for me than watching.

I'll probably be online all evening. Let me know if you're around.

the summer solstice is MESSING with me... its 10:22 and bright as day, yet there are fire flies floating around...

.. an awesome holiday!

I poked at a rock with my shovel and the damn thing exploded. But in the rubble was an emerald!

Was not expecting that at all.

@Shadowlink

You can find one of those a day in fact. The gems can be sold or I also heard they can be used for coloring furniture.

Got my Dream Suite today and Club LOL will appear who knows when. My shoe store opened up too. Talk about a packed day! I still didn't complete everything that I wanted to do so I'll have to return later and do some more things.

@VofEscaflowne

Go to that haunted town!
06/22/13, 19:36
@kgtennispro

How do I visit it? And is it really haunted? I kind of want to avoid visiting towns that have everything (or are really ahead due to Japan's earlier release) to try and avoid spoilers for certain things though that usually happens cause everyone one day ahead of me talks about it anyway

@VofEscaflowne

It's set in the fall so I guess that's kinda spoilery? And there were some fountains that looked pretty cool....I'm not sure what else would really be considered spoilers though, so I guess maybe it'd be better to NOT go ;p
06/22/13, 19:50
@kgtennispro

So why is it haunted? I just checked a video for a few minutes and it looked like an ordinary town with nothing special. But yeah, I only watched a few minutes from a video that was 20+ minutes.

@VofEscaflowne

There are 4 houses all really well put together.

And the villager's houses also have been customized to fit the theme.
