Welcome to the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate thread! This will be our headquarters for coordinating our Hunts, sharing stories of war, and helpful hints for our brothers-in-arms, compatriots, friends, and neighbors. Please be mindful of folks' different definitions of "spoilers," and remember that not EVERYBODY played Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, though everybody totally should've.


The "burden" of running this thread has been placed upon me but...I can't do it alone. I will lean on Maxi and others to help with the heavy lifting occasionally, both in planning things and also in feeding this thread. Please keep it bumped (once we get going). If you could, let us know if you're getting this game, WHEN you're getting this game, and what your aspirations are so we can get us situated in groups with likeminded people. Do you want to barely play this game? Is this going to be your new #1? The most fun with this game is had when you get to go out with a group of guys week in week out, so if we can find someone with a schedule similar to yours, you'll have the most fun with it.

Yep, one track as far as I can tell...just the Bone Axe route. Can't buy anything (yet).

I did two one-star quests just for the heck of it. I played around in the first area and harvested stuff, my pass back came in...and then came Arzuros like a crazed honeybadger. Literally he picked me up, shook me silly, and stole my honey. I wounded him while he was eating it like Winnie the Pooh, but he got away and I had zero potions or herbs to my name. If I'd switched to sword mode with my weapon, I might could have slain him. You win this time...

I did upgrade my helmet (Chain Helmet), armor (Hunter's Mail), and gloves (Chain Gloves) and harvested a ton of stuff. The chief wants me to go fishing...bleh...

Alright! I'm on there now, and d_Artagnan, Dynablade, and Vinnom are all off doing their own thing. Lou is at a hockey tourney until later. I guess I'll go offline myself now, and swing back on here in a bit. Surely someone has to be around, yah?

Ah, alright. I keep thinking you're Great Sword for some reason. My apologies. Have you tried to Forge a Wild Axe, too? That shouldn't be too hard for you to get, and you may even be able to Forge it now. That will more than likely go a different route than your Bone Axe.

Wow, the Arzuros did that? Pretty hilarious, haha.

Note that when you get Armor / Armor sets, you get special abilities with those sets that you might not get with just having one or two pieces from a set. Sooo, having that Hunter's Mail might actually be worse off for you than simply wearing Chain Armor, too. Check it out though, maybe you're good. (And when I get to my "preferred" thing, I'm all over the map myself, but I work around it with Decorations. I think I use Bone Helm, Bone Mail, a different Faulds, different again Greaves, and different again Gloves.)

Yeah, I was just foraging and in comes Arzuros and swung me around like a toy, threw me down, and stole some honey from me in the process. But he ate for a good 20 seconds and basically let me hit him. If I would have prepped better, I would have taken him down. If he would have had a "Hunny Pot", I would have named him Winnie the Pooh. It was pretty funny.

Yeah, not Great Sword...Switch Axe. It basically acts like a Great Sword when you switch it, but it's very different. The only thing I can forge is a Bone Axe+ right now, no other weapon from that tree is available right now, and I can't make one from scratch (yet).

Yeah I know how bonuses work. I just wanted something better than the old Leather Armor that I had. I didn't have the materials to forge Chain Armor yet, nor could I forge more Hunter's gear with what I had. So...there we go.

Alright, my eyes are being A-holes right now so I can barely see without blotches. Read most of Ludist's post, have to come back later and see if what I read is actually what I read. What a pain.

Alright, you know that little..vestibule thing on submarines where you can get ready to go out into the water, but the doors close so nobody else gets wet? That is what I'm metaphorically in now. I'm ready to play Monster Hunter, but its a few hours before Lou is home (the only person who seemingly wants to play with me.. *sigh*), and d_Artagnan is hopping on around 1am EST. If/when someone wants to go soon, gimme a heads up, and I'll hop on then.

I did a bunch of Woods stuff today so I'm all set for some HUNTS. Probably just stick in 1 Star stuff for tonight, maybe an Arena quest or two, up for the Event Quest if someone else wants to do it / again. I'm really ready for whatever. I have no specific goals for the night, really, should I wouldn't mind picking up Big Fins and/or Pelagicite Ore. Dig it.

I'd probably be down for some hunting tomorrow night, I've only put in an hour or so online so far. I wanted to get a decent weapon & suit of armor before really jumping in, seeing that the Rathian, Lagombi, etc are in the first bunch of quests.

You'll probably be OK. Anand, Kenny, and myself did all of our 1 Star stuff without good armor.

I'm definitely getting better stuff before I go after my 2 Stars though.

They're either in the Volcano or the Tundra. I need some, too; have none. When you confirm, clue me in!

Oh I shall.

A google search has shown me that it's possible to find them in the tundra, but after 4 failed attempts, I'm guessing they're just super rare...

i'll be jumping on shortly, i had to make dinner and teach old people how to use electronics.

Hope i can rid myself of my HR1 status... I think you just have to finish the one-star quests...? I played with someone a few days ago who said he hunted Rathian "like 8 times" and hadn't moved up yet, so that was my guess.
